This job post is specific to FlatIron and 2U edX Students - If you are interested in this type of role but are not a FlatIron Student, please review the other volunteer opportunities on our volunteer page: Join the WeVote Movement WeVote has an open Volunteer Software Engineering position (with an emphasis on analytics ) for an individual who wants to develop new skills, or expand your existing skills, with CSS/HTML, ReactJS and Django/Python, Google Analytics 4, Google Tag Manager and BigQuery to help strengthen American Democracy. This volunteer role currently requires 10-20 hours per week and we request candidates who can commit to at least 3 months. WeVote is a great opportunity to get involved with supporting American Democracy. We are a partner to both FlatIron and 2U edX. About Us WeVote is a nonpartisan get-out-the-vote nonprofit startup and a celebrated Fast Forward nonprofit technology grantee. WeVote is building a movement of excellent, passionate, part-time volunteers (starting with the founders) who build mobile technologies that will touch and mobilize millions of voters on Election Day. We believe that many voters are busy, distracted, and impatient. We have a goal of providing a positive voting experience that helps people decide how to vote. More or on Twitter @WeVote. What You'll Do Install our software on your development machine. We need full-stack engineers who can work in both React and Python, but if you prefer to focus on one or the other, we can work with you as well. Contribute to any/all of the following areas of development: - React-based Mobile Website (more details), or - Django/Python API Server (Mac/Unix only) (more details) Work with two teams each week in Google Hangouts: One of the engineering teams A, B, C, or E, and, the Analytics Team Meeting on Tuesdays at 4pm Pacific / 7pm Eastern Tackle specific issues as well as larger projects described in our internal Jira system (we currently have over 20 active engineers). Who you are: Must haves Some prior SW Development experience. Ideally, you have been on an internal application development OR product development team in the past. International experience is accepted for this requirement, You have an active GitHub repository or can direct us to your portfolio You want to work with an established and successful team. You have a passion for the latest technology and are committed to strengthening American Democracy. You have enough experience or aptitude that you can see 5-20 hour-long projects through to completion. We can support you and answer questions (with occasional pair programming), but the projects we have available could be called Intermediate to Advanced. You are striving for personal excellence. At least 10+ hours per week during our core team hours M-F 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. We understand not everyone is in the position to put in this many hours, but less time doesn't work for our team. Apologies in advance. (We have other engineering volunteers working 8-40 hours per week.) A willingness to collaborate with other volunteers.
