This position provides cohesive management for all Music Department operations, including but not limited to concert events, facilities management of Warren Music Center, MIDI Lab, special events, and other projects to provide an excellent professional experience for students, staff, faculty, and the community. This position has a supervisory capacity over a staff of student workers and volunteers needed for daily and event operations. It is also responsible for overseeing and managing music department equipment and scheduling the usage of the Warren Music Center for music department activities. This position involves physical requirements that include: being able to drive rented vehicles, lift, haul, and set up equipment for sound and staging for events, and the physical ability to set up and tear down classroom furniture and equipment for daily use of the music facilities. Required Education Bachelor of Arts degree preferred. Required Experience Facility organization, inventory management (e.g. instruments, sound equipment, classroom equipment), general maintenance and repair. Expertise with sound, light, and video equipment. Licensed to drive a van and truck (not a tractor-trailer), rented vehicles. Ability to set up equipment for sound and staging events. Primary Duties/Essential Functions Oversee the functionality and scheduling of the Music Department facilities including classrooms, offices, storage spaces, and performance halls Create a classroom reset template for each common area (classroom, performance spaces, work-room, hallways, courtyard furniture adjacent to Warren) Ensure each common area is reset at least 2 times each day (mid-morning and mid-afternoon, in addition to normal MA reset each night) Manage the daily reset of spaces, note and report all maintenance needs (paint, lights, trash, carpet stains/tears, door functionality, etc.) Manage the student locker room, locks, and assignment of lockers. Report facilities issues to the music chair and University Facilities. Maintain and enforce policies on facility and equipment usage. Schedule the use of offices and teaching spaces in Warren Music Center for adjunct applied lessons. Coordinate and organize storage in the School of Music building and storage facilities; including driving, loading, and unloading. Maintain an orderly appearance and organization to all storage spaces in the Warren Music Center, Munson, and off-site storage facilities. Maintain the organization of all music public relations material. Oversee upkeep of instruments including communication with repair specialists. Be the primary contact for all piano tuning and maintenance. Work with the Chair to create the piano maintenance schedule. Work with the piano technician to ensure the schedule is being followed. Get consulted by the piano faculty. Have two to three piano tuners at the ready for last-minute needs. Manage all rented instruments from Conn/Selmer or designated vendors. Manage all instrument check-out and check-in. Manage all School of Music-owned equipment/property including instruments and sound equipment. All items are to be cataloged, and reviewed regularly. All items are to be on a maintenance schedule. The estimates for maintenance and replacement should be known and communicated the Chair of the Department of Music. Manage all sound equipment check-out and check-in. Oversee Music Assistants to ensure that policies/procedures are followed and that tasks are being completed efficiently and appropriately. Supervise and coordinate student workers for large projects, events, and daily management of the music facilities. Create, maintain, and manage music assistants' schedules and shifts, including covers or switches for events such as recitals, concerts, etc. Maintain the Music Assistant communication pages and sites. Coordinate the hiring, orientation, and training of student workers. Provide general training for student drivers in rented vehicles. Event Support Coordinate with the Chair to plan and implement schedules for events/performances each semester. Provide equipment support for classes, concerts, performance forums, and special events on and off campus in coordination with the three academic departments of the School of Music. Assist with multimedia systems in classrooms and performance hall. Support for all School of Music large events held off campus including but not limited to: Dinner Rally, Celebrate Christmas, Industry Spotlight, etc.. Responsible for daily electronic timekeeping as it applies to the scope of this position. Demonstrate punctual attendance as required by the supervisor based on department needs. Perform miscellaneous duties related to facility management as required by the Chair of APU Music. Skills Ability to multi-task. Excellent communication and organization skills. Detail oriented. Extensive lifting and moving of equipment and furniture. Bending to floor and reaching to top of 5 drawer file cabinet. Lifting up to 50 lbs. Climbing ladders up to 20 ft. high. Driving a truck (not 18-wheeler). Visual Demands Reading, writing notes, and computer monitor. Environment Pleasant office, comfortable temperatures. Multiple conversations and transactions occurring simultaneously. Technologies Proficient in Windows, Google Apps, Microsoft Word and Excel, Web check-out inventory systems. Compensation Grade 9: $23.58 to $27.12 is the hourly compensation for this role and reflects what Azusa Pacific University reasonably expects to pay for this position. Actual compensation may vary based on the qualifications, experience, and internal equity. In addition to compensation, APU offers a competitive benefits package.
