ORGANIZATION: Mount Auburn Cemetery comprises 175 acres and is situated in Watertown and Cambridge near Boston, Massachusetts. Founded in 1831, and visited by over 200,000 people each year, Mount Auburn is a National Historic Landmark, recognized as the first "rural cemetery" and the inspiration for the American Parks Movement during the 19th century. As an active cemetery, Mount Auburn inspires all who visit, comforts the bereaved, and commemorates the dead in a landscape of exceptional beauty. As an accredited arboretum, Mount Auburn features 5,000 trees and more than 20,000 plants overall. POSITION SUMMARY: The Event Operations Technician assists with the daily set up and breakdown of funeral events, catered receptions, artistic performances, staff meetings, and other public and private events taking place at Mount Auburn Cemetery. Transports event equipment and furnishings to locations throughout Mount Auburn's campus and assists with the set up, and break down of all items including tables, chairs, and tents. Supports the Event Operations Supervisor with the management and maintenance of Mount Auburn's inventory of event supplies. The Technician is detail oriented and ensures that each event meets or exceeds the expectations of our guests. In addition, there will be cross training within the Cemetery Operations Department including security, interments, and cemetery services. Performs additional tasks as assigned. DUTIES AND Responsibilities: Ensures that the appearance and general condition of indoor and outdoor event spaces meets Mount Auburn's standard of excellence. Prioritizes safety and follows Mount Auburn's codes, regulations, and safety and accessibility standards. Responsible for Events Operations in the absence of the Events Operations Supervisor. Follows event set-up sheets and floor plans to ensure every event meets expectations. Heavy work that includes moving and adjusting objects including assembling and breaking down tables, chairs, podiums, easels, flipcharts, tents and shade structures, and other furnishings in accordance with the day's setup needs. Drives Cemetery vehicles to move event equipment to and from locations throughout Cemetery campus. Delivers Mount Auburn-supplied items to caterers including trash receptacles and ice. Handles equipment challenges and changes in a timely and professional manner. Provides final touch-up cleaning of event space after event load-in and set-up is completed. Monitors events and checks in with guest-facing events team to provide operational support as necessary. Assists with management and maintenance of all event supplies and furnishings. Receives delivery of and assembles new event supplies and furnishings. Organizes and maintains cleanliness of supply storage areas. Participates in regular safety meetings, safety training, and hazard assessments. Participates in professional development training opportunities. Understands company processes, follows procedures. Working times will include irregular hours including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Communicates effectively and timely to department leaders, co-workers, and management. Maintains hours worked and time off requests for in Paycom. Work overtime hours as needed. As with all Cemetery staff, assist with any cemetery business including special meetings, conferences, Friends events and public programs as needed. Demonstrate responsible stewardship for the environment when planning and implementing all duties incorporated in job description. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED preferred. Language fluency in both English and Spanish is preferred. Experience organizing schedules is preferred. Ability to follow safety procedures and guidelines. Ability to handle multiple tasks quickly and efficiently. Must be detail oriented. Ability to maintain composure and professional outlook when under job-related pressure. A desire to serve others at a time of emotional distress or need. Must be dependable and punctual. Ability to work independently. Must be patient, energetic, creative, and flexible as work demands change. Must have a valid driver's license. REQUIRED PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Traverse all areas of the Cemetery, including the Chapels, Greenhouse, Administration Building, and the cemetery grounds including traversing stairs, inclines, declines, and uneven terrain in all weather conditions. Consistently working outdoors remaining in a stationary position in variable weather conditions. Heavy work that includes moving, adjusting, or carrying objects weighing up to 80 pounds. Move within a normal office environment, accessing all records and equipment. Operate company vehicles (cars, vans, trucks, and all-terrain work vehicles). Consistently works in all weather conditions including cold, heat, snow, rain, and other harsh weather. Heavy work that includes moving, adjusting, or carrying objects including caskets, 8x4 plywood sections, interment greens and other interment equipment. Communicate with two-way radios.
