Location: Ideally Armonk, Kansas City, Schaumburg, Chicago, but for the right candidate, the role is open to any US location, including remote. About the Role: In this role, you will be responsible for underwriting reinsurance treaty business across all casualty lines (general liability, auto liability, workers compensation, and excess/umbrella liability), with minimal exposure to professional lines. Open to both insurance and reinsurance experience. Role will include active engagement with our clients and brokers, as well as internal colleagues such as client markets, actuarial, claims, reserving, contracts, and structuring, The job activities include the following: Make underwriting decisions within authority levels and support the escalation of treaties exceeding authority in accordance with referral guidelines. Effectively communicate underwriting assessment of treaties to cross-functional deal teams and senior management in a clear, cohesive, and succinct manner. Work closely with actuaries, understanding and being able to summarize and communicate drivers of year over year loss pick changes. Proactively initiating discussions with clients to understand their portfolio, identify their motivation, needs, and priorities. Develop appropriate reinsurance solutions that leverage the full range of Swiss Re capabilities. Coordinate deal strategy and recommend treaty terms and conditions including reinsurance contract review. Build and maintain professional relationships with external clients, brokers, and internal stakeholders. Ability to provide market insights to internal and external stakeholders. Perform underwriting audits and other client visits as required - Travel up to 20% Participate in Swiss Re initiatives, projects, and cross functional teams. Help recruit, train, and develop team members as needed. About the Team: The Global client segment is responsible for some of the largest treaties and most strategic client relationships across direct and broker-produced channels. The team includes senior underwriters and actuaries who work with corresponding client managers and other functions including claims, risk management, reserving, contract specialists, and legal. The broader team is based across Armonk (NY), New York (NY), Schaumburg (IL), Kansas City (MO), and teleworkers. About You: At least 8 years of experience in reinsurance or primary pricing or reserving for Casualty lines of business Bachelor's degree; an advanced degree and/or insurance designations are preferred. An area of expertise, this could pertain to pricing/underwriting a line or class of business. Ability and desire to work effectively in a team-oriented environment in a collaborative and open manner. Natural desire and curiosity to continually learn and self-develop. For Armonk, NY, the estimated base salary range for this position is $156,000 to $246,000. The specific salary offered for this, or any given role will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to job location, scope of role, qualifications, complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent, experience, education, and employer budget.
