Overview: Concrete finishers pour, forms, spreads and floats finished surfaces along with edging and cut the joints of poured concrete. These specialized workers finish top surfaces of concrete using tools such as brooms, smooth trowels and water to create the desired texture. This task includes inspecting finished concrete and removing imperfections. Concrete finishers place forms to control where concrete is being poured and help spread the concrete as its being poured to ensure the finished result will be level. Concrete finishers inspected finished concrete, patch holes, and fix imperfections after concrete has finished setting. They also make repairs to old concrete by filling cracks, replacing damaged areas, and refinishing surfaces. Concrete finishers clean and maintain all their tools, replacing tools and tool parts as needed. These professionals typically work as part of a construction crew in a collaborative, team environment and report directly to their project managers or foremen while maintaining safety standards at all times. Responsibilities: Setting forms that hold the concrete in place. Cleaning and inspecting surfaces for pouring issues. Directing the casting of the concrete with the truck driver. Pouring, smoothing, and leveling concrete using a rake, trowel, float, and screed. This includes handheld tools and power tool versions. Monitoring the effects of the weather on the curing process. Applying sealing and hardening components. Safely operating power vibrator to ensure the concrete is compacted. Molding and constructing expansion joints using joiners and edging tools. Polishing surface using a power surfacing machine. Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Qualifications: Must be at least 18 years of age Previous experience working with concrete Experience using jacks, plate tampers, bobcat, hand floats, bull floats, edgers, joiners and trowels strongly preferred. Physical and Environmental Specific Requirements: Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time Physical ability to lift and carry 80+ lbs of materials Ability to kneel for long periods. Manual dexterity and strength sufficient enough to use hand and power tools. Eyesight sufficient to effectively assess the work in progress Speaking and hearing ability sufficient to effectively communicate.
