Job Description Summary: TWB (Worthington Steel) is excited to welcome a Welding Engineer to join our team. This position is based in TWB's Monroe, MI facility with opportunities in all of the 10 other operational locations. We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who are eager to support and develop welding processes in a Tier 1 automotive manufacturing environment. This position is an excellent chance to apply your knowledge and skills while working and developing with a diverse team. This person must be a highly creative and self-motivated individual with good communication skills and willing to work with people with a variety of backgrounds to achieve goals that require multi-skilled coordination. A hands-on and can-do mindset is essential for this position as you will be directly interacting with personnel on the manufacturing floor. Responsibilities: Apply engineering and scientific principles in the design and execution of development projects Take on broad assignments that require originality and ingenuity in the materials joining field Develop and refine test methods to support new product development and process evaluations Assist in the development of manufacturing process capabilities for new product introductions Investigate and implement improvements to existing welding processes Stay up to date on the latest technology developments in the materials joining field Assist in troubleshooting existing welding processes Participate in training operators and maintenance personnel Investigate and develop new materials joining technologies Develop and maintain standardized operating procedures Take proactive measures to prevent product non-conformances related to process and quality Collaborate with Quality, Logistics, Maintenance, Operations, and Engineering personnel to ensure timely production support Interact with equipment suppliers to determine appropriate equipment and specifications Perform process analysis for cost reduction, quality improvement and efficiency improvement Skills and Qualifications: A bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering, Metallurgy, or Materials Science Working knowledge of industrial controls (PLC) and robotics - experience preferred Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, 2D and 3D CAD Direct experience with welding processes - laser welding / FSW experience preferred. Working knowledge of solid-state welding processes Understanding of technical details and the ability clearly communicate details to stakeholders. Strong communication skills (both verbal and written) as well as the ability to adjust messaging to effectively communicate throughout the organization Familiarity or willingness to learn lean six sigma principles Strong critical thinking ability to analyze and solve problems Strong interpersonal & teamwork skills Quick learner who can perceive needs and work independently once trained Data driven problem solving approach including root cause analysis Additional Requirements: Must be physically able to freely access all areas of the plant & grounds Must be able to travel as needed via most expeditious means Must have valid driver's license Ability to frequently bend & stoop and lift at least 50 pounds About Us Hesitant to apply because you may not meet every specific requirement?
