Job Details The Opportunity Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia, one of the first cancer centers to receive comprehensive designation from the National Cancer Institute, seeks an accomplished breast medical oncologist and leader to serve as Chief of Breast Oncology. The Organization Fox Chase Cancer Center was established in 1974 through the merger of the American Oncologic Hospital, founded in 1904 as one of the country's first cancer-focused hospitals, and the Institute for Cancer Research, founded in 1927. One of the nation's first cancer hospitals,Fox Chase is a founding member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network, with a mission is "to prevail over cancer, marshaling heart and mind in bold scientific discovery, pioneering prevention, and compassionate care." Fox Chase joined Temple University Health System in 2012, a relationship which has furtherexpanded research and treatment expertise throughout the region. With a catchment area of nearly 7.3 million people across six counties in southeastern Pennsylvania and nine counties in southern New Jersey, Fox Chase diagnoses and treats every kind of cancer and offers patients state-of-the-art and best practice treatments as well as clinical trials to cure their cancer. With a staff of over 2,000, the center provides both patient care and research in more than 80 laboratories, staffed by hundreds of physicians and scientists. The affiliation with Temple University has added value to the cancer center with the addition of 50 research program members from multiple university departments, the Lewis Katz School of Medicine, and the College of Public Health Researchers at Fox Chase have won the highest awards in their fields, including two Nobel Prizes, a Kyoto Prize in basic sciences, a Lasker Clinical Research Award, an Albert Szent-Gyí¶rgyi Prize for Progress in Cancer Research, American Cancer Society Medals of Honor, memberships in the National Academy of Sciences, and induction into the National Inventors Hall of Fame. Today, scientific initiatives span a broad array of nationally competitive basic, translational, and clinical research, with special programs in cancer prevention, detection, survivorship, and community outreach. Fox Chase physicians are routinely recognized in national rankings, and the Center's nursing program has received the Magnet status for excellence six consecutive times. The Position Reporting directly to the Chair, Department of Hematology Oncology, the Chief of Breast Oncology will be responsible for continuing to build and maintain excellence in clinical care, education and research. The Chief will be a key member of a busy clinical group, collaborating within a multidisciplinary environment, and will facilitate the development of clinical research within the Division of Breast Oncology. Other duties will include teaching and supervision of trainees and students, scholarly activity and an active role in the recruitment, retention and mentorship of faculty in the division. Minimum Qualifications &bull /tMD or DO, and Board certification in medical oncology. &bull /tLicensed or eligible for medical licensure in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. &bull /tPrevious leadership experience in an academic setting/NCI-designated cancer center &bull /tPossess scholarly accomplishments appropriate for the rank of Associate Professor or Professor with a minimum of 8+ years of experience post-fellowship in breast oncology. &bull /tOutstanding clinician with a successful track record of high-quality clinical outcomes. &bull /tExperience in the development and conduct of clinical trials and proven ability to facilitate multi-disciplinary research teams. &bull /tUnderstanding of quality and performance improvement, compliance with regulatory and accreditation guidelines, and utilization management. &bull /tPromotes a team focused approach to care. &bull /tExhibits empathy, humility and compassion. &bull /tDemonstrates strong listening skills. &bull /tAbility to build internal and external relationships with trust and credibility. &bull /tStrong written and oral communication skills with the ability to influence others.
