The Corporate & Foundation Relations team has an exciting opening for a Director for Corporate Relations. This is a full-time permanent position. The Director for Corporate Relations is a vital member of the Central Corporate & Foundation Relations team (Central CFR). The Director supports Central CFR's corporate relations strategy and programming, develops institution-level strategy for a portfolio of top-rated corporate prospects, raises funds for select programs and initiatives, contributes to corporate relations training for colleagues and faculty, and positively represents the UW. The Director works as a trusted partner across the UW's schools, colleges and campuses, including the Office of Research and the Office of Sponsored Programs and CoMotion, lending corporate relations expertise, strategic guidance and hands-on fundraising support. The Director reports to the Senior Director for Corporate Relations. What You Will Do: Fundraising and Relationship Management (70%) • Manage a portfolio of corporate prospects and funders, shaping and executing engagement strategies. Serve as a primary contact for these and other companies seeking to build a relationship with the UW. • Create opportunities to seek major support, including developing proposals with a focus on opportunities of $1 million and greater. • Build partnerships to help match companies to funding and other engagement opportunities. • Develop long-lasting and authentic relationships with people at companies, serving as a trusted partner. • Support academic leaders develop relationships and engage with companies. Accompany academic leaders on visits to companies locally and nationally, as needed. • Lead strategy sessions for top corporate prospects and funders. Work transparently and collegially to develop and activate strategies. • Support unit colleagues and their faculty in proposal strategy and development, including writing and reviewing proposals as warranted. • Build relationships with current and potential industry partners that are aligned with the university's strategic goals and priorities. Understand companies' needs and interests and connect them to expertise and resources at the UW, including hosting visits on campus. • Develop thoughtful stewardship as part of a holistic strategy for each company, including advising on the conceptualization of reports and other collateral. Visibility and Pipeline Development (20%) • Support pipeline development by seeking opportunities to establish new and expand existing UW-company relationships. • Drive awareness of targeted opportunities at the UW with the goal of forging revenue-generating and other beneficial engagements. • Connect with local businesses to build relationships and rapport. Projects (10%) • Support faculty in recruiting industry partners for major federal grant opportunities. • Create and support programs that facilitate new or ongoing relationships between UW researchers and their industry counterparts. • Identify and promote best practices for company-university relations at the UW. Participate in training faculty and staff in corporate relations. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Bachelor's degree AND five to seven years of progressively responsible experience in corporate relations, fund development or related field. Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. What You Bring: • Demonstrated ability to establish, cultivate and steward strong partnerships between universities and companies. • Demonstrated ability to lead and implement portfolio-level strategies for establishing, cultivating and stewarding relationships between companies and the university. • Ability to navigate complex organizations and support others in doing the same; equipped with a problem-solving orientation. • Demonstrated ability to develop and achieve goals; ability to accurately forecast and develop both short- and long-term goals. • Superior writing skills, including proposal-writing experience; knowledge of corporate prospect research. • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive relationships; active contributor to help teams achieve results. • Ability to work independently, take initiative, set priorities and handle multiple projects efficiently and effectively. • Ability to make decisions in ambiguous situations and exercise good judgment in a fast-paced, dynamic, deadline-driven environment while remaining organized and professional. • Ability to maintain confidence and protect confidential information while modeling the UW's ethical values. • Demonstrates respect for and commitment to diversity and inclusiveness. • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite for correspondence, special reports, spreadsheets, databases, forms, etc. What You Can Expect: • Cubicle/open workspace environment that may result in higher levels of noise and visual distractions. • Some evening and weekend hours required, as necessary, for event support. • Frequent local travel and some national travel expected.
