Job Description JOB INFORMATION: Job Title: Assistant Controller Department(s): 5070 - Finance Location(s): Hutchinson Island FLSA Status: Exempt JOB OVERVIEW: Under the supervision of the Controller, the Assistant Controller is responsible for managing all aspects of the accounting department. Upholds the values of the GPA to promote Safety, Integrity, Respect, Community, Creativity and Opportunity. Promotes a safe work environment by participating in safety initiatives and reporting unsafe conditions and behaviors. JOB DUTIES: Develops accounting policies to comply with Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB). Manages the preparation of monthly and annual financial reports in accordance with GASB on a timely and accurate basis. Performs financial analysis of operating results against prior periods and budgets. Oversees the payroll team and payroll processes. Collaborate with Human Resources to support annual employee reviews. Manages accounts payable and weekly payment processes. Maintains accounting records and complies with all reporting requirements for federal, state and local grants. Review/approve journal entries, account reconciliations and bank reconciliations. Reports on monthly and annual financial results. Coordinates and manages external audit. Responsible for the timely production of the annual audited financial statements. Coordinates presentation of the audited financial statements to the Board. Supports the development of the annual operating, cash and capital budgets. Provides support to the other Divisions as needed. Supports the development of the presentation for the Board. Provides framework of internal controls covering the custody and control of GPA assets and the receipt and disbursement of all funds. Periodically reviews and updates internal control policies and procedures as needed. Support ERP implementation and assist in the development of ERP-related policies and procedures. Maintains the proper environment of ethics, quality and integrity in the Finance Division. Improve processes and create efficiencies. Provide financial input, counsel, guidance, and technical assistance to other Divisions and Staff as required. JOB REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Must be proficient with the use of personal computers. Knowledge of Excel required. Knowledge of SAP or other large ERP systems desired. Familiarity with GASB desired. Excellent written, oral communication, and presentation skills required. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively and professionally with GPA staff on all levels of administration as well as internal and external customers. Experience 1-3 years in a senior financial management position Required Experience in Board level reporting Preferred Management experience and the ability to deal effectively with employees and people Required Education Required Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or closely related field Preferred Master's Degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or closely related field Licenses Certifications TWIC - Transportation Worker Identification Credential Required Driver's License - Valid state driver's license Required Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Required Note: This job description is not necessarily an exhaustive list of all duties, responsibilities, job requirements, or working conditions associated with the job.
