Location: Albany, NY Category: Administrative Posted On: Tue Oct 1 2024 Job Description: JOB SUMMARY This position requires strong communication skills and the ability to understand and synthesize complex research topics ranging from semiconductors to integrated photonics. This position will be responsible for connecting with leading researchers and technical teams at NY CREATES to create print and digital technical content and edit documents in support of NY CREATES' funding and partnership opportunities, and promotion, including grant/proposal development and ensuring consistent voice on all submissions. The Technical Writer collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that all application, proposal, presentation, and publication requirements, deadlines, and schedules are maintained, and deliverables are timely and of high quality. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Document Preparation: Plan, research, write, revise, and maintain both printed and online documentation, including for proposals, funding/grant applications, presentations, and/or publications. Information Gathering: Gather and analyze information from various sources to support writing efforts. Develop and create annual report for NY CREATES-connected research & development. Documentation Editing: Write, format, edit, review, and proof procedural and technical information for technical and non-technical users. Document Library Management: Maintain a library of documentation, cataloging it for internal and external use. Template Management: Publish and maintain templates for various written documentation, ensuring a consistent "look and feel" across different documents. Policy and Procedure Establishment: Establish technical team documentation policies and procedures, conforming to existing styles, policies, and procedures. Peer Editing and Review: Oversee peer editing and production review work to ensure high-quality documentation. Feedback Handling: Efficiently and thoroughly address feedback on published content from both customers and internal support representatives. Job Requirements: MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS This position requires a bachelor's degree in the area of business, science, engineering, or a related field from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization OR equivalent relevant professional experience. The incumbent must have a minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience. The Technical Writer will possess the skills, knowledge, and ability to quickly learn and understand complex topics independently. The successful candidate demonstrates excellent command of the English language and grammar, clear and well-reasoned verbal, and written communications, including a professional telephone presence and email etiquette. Additionally, the Technical Writer will be able to organize, interpret, and express technical information for a general audience. This position requires not only exceptional writing skills but also the ability to collaborate closely with our Technical/Research and Workforce Development teams on programs and technology thrusts that include Emerging Technologies, Custom Fab, NORDTECH, AIM Photonics, quantum computing, memory prototyping, photonics, heterogeneous integration, and semiconductor packaging. The Technical Writer must have experience in project management best practices and standards, working with stakeholders and collaborating in a cross-functional team environment. The Technical Writer is able to meet tight deadlines and handle multiple projects simultaneously. Additionally, the Technical Writer must possess the ability to interface with external and internal partners at various levels within an organization; work independently; prioritize demands in a fast-paced environment; have strong organization skills; and have experience with job-relevant software. This position is contingent on the satisfactory completion of a background check; this position may require annual background checks. PREFERED REQUIREMENTS Semiconductor engineering or manufacturing experience. Fifteen years of professionally responsible work experience in a similar position.
