Job Summary Leads and directs an underwriting team for monoline property reporting into National Accounts Property Structured Risk business unit. This new position is accountable for business results through overall management to drive underwriting excellence, profitability, and business development of a current book of business with dedicated property units for example Marsh QSG, AON Middle Market (MM) Property, AON PSG, and WTW MM Property. This team is an important cross sell with Middle Market allowing property experts to face off with their broker counter parts on complex monoline property risks while creating opportunity to cross sell the remaining lines to Middle Market. The National Accounts Property (NAP) business unit offers policy holder's solutions for large national and global businesses with unique, complex risk profiles to provide customized risk management and insurance solutions via retail and wholesale distribution channels. Our underwriting departments are specialized based on program structure type (ground up vs. shared and layered) and distribution channel (retail vs. wholesale). NAP consists of four sub-business units: • Structured Risk - Ground Up and Large Quota Share Placements • Risk Management - Retail Broker driven Shared & Layered Placements • E&S Select Risk - Wholesale Broker driven Shared & Layered Placements • Equipment Breakdown JOB DESCRIPTION: Essential Duties & Responsibilities Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines: Directs the work activities and has full management responsibility for the performance and development of subordinate staff in accordance with corporate strategic direction. Coaches, leads and develops underwriters and directs the development of underwriting training. Participates with senior management in the development and implementation of underwriting policy, marketing and business strategy. Develops and implements operating plans for enhancing the business and meeting strategic objectives. Reviews and directs the application of underwriting policy and pricing for all risks within an assigned book of business. May market products and services through agencies or through the brokerage community. Develops and maintains agency and/or broker relationships to ensure positive and profitable outcomes. Reports business progress to senior management. Keeps current on state/territory issues and regulations, industry activity and trends. May represent the company in industry trade groups. Reporting Relationship AVP or above Skills, Knowledge and Abilities 1. Ability to effectively lead, coach and develop an underwriting group. 2. Excellent communication, negotiation and presentation skills. Ability to effectively interact with all levels of CNA's internal and external business partners. 3. Senior level technical and business management acumen, underwriting skill and knowledge of insurance and underwriting principles, practices and procedures. 4. Excellent analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and teams. 5. Ability to deal with ambiguous situations and issues. 6. Creativity in resolving unique and challenging business problems. 7. Ability to achieve results by taking a proactive long-term view of business goals and objectives. 8. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software. Education and Experience 1. MBA or its equivalent in experience. Professional designations preferred.2. Typically a minimum of ten years of underwriting experience with a proven track record of results. In certain jurisdictions, CNA is legally required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. In District of Columbia, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Maryland, New York and Washington, the national base pay range for this job level is $87,000 to $178,000 annually. Salary determinations are based on various factors, including but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location.
