Company Description TITLE: Finance VISTA DEPARTMENT: Finance REPORTS TO : Senior Director, Finance & Administration STATUS: Exempt About New Yorkers for Children: Founded in 1996, New Yorkers For Children (NYFC) ( protects, ensures, and promotes the safety and well-being of NYC's children and families, with an emphasis on youth in foster care. New Yorkers For Children funds, incubates, pilots, and implements much needed programs to improve outcomes for New York City youth in, and transitioning out of, the NYC child welfare system. NYFC's work falls into two areas: direct scholarship programs for older youth in foster care and innovative programs that test promising practices in the NYC Child Welfare arena. In addition, to direct scholarship programs, NYFC operates a youth-led, youth-elected Youth Advisory Board (YAB) comprised of youth currently in foster care or alumni of foster care. NYFC partners with the New York City's Administration for Children's Services (ACS) and its network of nonprofit foster care agencies on all programmatic work as well as over 32 community partners. In addition, NYFC manages over 30+ unique grants annually on behalf of ACS as well as oversees several large-scale multi-year pilot programs delivered through community partners. Job Description Reporting to the Senior Director of Finance and Administration, the AmeriCorps VISTA position will build capacity of New Yorkers For Children by allowing the organization to expand its financial and program efforts to build capacity and meet pressing community needs. Specific tasks will include managing and modernizing cash aid request programs such as our Back-to-School Program and Emergency Grants youth payments, taking leadership on Accounts Payable processing, and building out capacity in areas such as automation of payment management. The VISTA role will include researching and making formal recommendations about new technologies to be used by the Finance department. As the NYFC currently works in a hybrid in-person/remote model, NYFC will ensure that the selected candidates have Internet Access, computers with access to the NYFC database, and receive orientation and training virtually. The VISTA will also be provided with monthly transportation/Metro Cards so they can get to and from the office and will be reimbursed for use of their cell phones (up to $75 per month). The office is located by Pennsylvania Station in New York City - a very central hub - so any candidates in the region will be able to access the office via public transportation. Priority may be given to local applicants so that they will not need to scramble to find housing. Member Duties : Process and distribute youth requests for laptops and gift cards Research optimal ways to digitize Back-to-School Program contacts to streamline the process Maintain inventory tracker weekly create/enhance current electronic Inventory Tracker Maintain application in alphabetical order in the respective files Ensure that documentation of ACS verification of Foster Care status is updated. Collaborate with Finance department staff to take leadership on updating of NYFC infrastructure Gain understanding of Accounts Payable, Vendor Set-Up and Maintenance, Emergency Grants youth payments, vendor inquiries, Customer Set-Up and Maintenance and invoice approval Update and maintain vendors 1099 information in QuickBooks Investigate the most requested financial information and design banking report for NYFC Build out Finance department capacity by researching new technologies with automated software. Members will receive a biweekly living stipend of $1,117.06, and after a full year of service they are eligible for the end of service education award which is $7,395.00
