JOB DESCRIPTION POSITION TITLE: Development Coordinator CLASSIFICATION STATUS: Exempt REPORTS TO: Senior Director of Development POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Development Coordinator (DC) is an entry-level fundraiser. Working closely with the Senior Director of Development and Development Manager, the DC will be responsible for internal and external agency communications (e-blasts/newsletters, website, print and digital publications, such as annual report and campaign documents) and be responsible for drafting narrative for communications. The DC will also coordinate volunteer outreach and engagement with individuals and corporate groups for program and special event support, as well as serve as the liaison for the Associate Board. The position will also assist in planning, coordinating, and the execution of agency special events, community events, and other fundraisers. The position is a hybrid work environment with most work completed remotely, but in-person meetings will also be required with notice of time and location. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : Fundraising Events Support special event production that drives revenue and increases visibility for Chicago House, including working with the Board Development Committee and Associate Board. Coordinate planning and onsite elements of special events and fundraisers, including serving as point of contact leading up to and day-of events. Collaborate and support any event consultants for fundraisers, such as the Spring Brunch and Fashion Show. Serve as the liaison for third-party fundraising events at local businesses and with volunteer groups; maintain a calendar of events along with due dates for any deliverables/materials requested for the event. Engage in occasional evening and weekend assignments related to donor cultivation events, fundraising activities, committee meetings, and events that occur outside of normal business hours. Available for occasional local travel for events at Chicago House sites, partner meetings/events, or to pick up/deliver in-kind donations. Provide direct support for post-event follow-up action items. Communications Assist in the growth of the organizational revenue through multichannel communications, events, and community engagement. Drive the implementation of the communications plan through newsletters, annual reports, e-blasts, website updates, press releases, and other materials. Manage website updates, digital communication, and analyze web-based activity to identify effective methods of reaching our donor audience through email and website. Produce materials such as donor briefings, collateral, solicitation letters, feature articles, newsletters, and reports. Develop digital documents and images for fundraising campaigns and communications using Canva, Adobe, and other online tools. Maintain thorough knowledge of all agency programs and updates through regular communication with program departments. Volunteer Program Responsibilities Coordinate the agency's volunteer program, including recruitment, training, and scheduling. Coordinate volunteer teams for various activities like office projects, program activities, special events, and community engagement and outreach. Work directly with Employee Resource Groups on volunteer activities. General Development Responsibilities Contribute to the development and implementation of the annual development plan, including the fundraising and special events, volunteer program, and community/collaborative fundraising efforts, including street festivals. Research, conceive, and develop fundraising events, partnerships, and opportunities in collaboration with the Senior Director of Development. Represent Chicago House at fundraisers and public forums, including speaking in front of donors. Maintain general knowledge of and relationships with major donors, corporations, and foundations. Support the production of proposals, solicitation letters, acknowledgements, and reports for institutional partners. Collaborate with development and program staff to explore and discuss ways to increase support from institutional partners and individual donors. Provide back up support for the department, including working with the donor database (Raiser's Edge), and other administrative projects. Perform other duties as directed. REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS: 1-2 years' fundraising or development experience preferred. Preferred degree, certification, or relevant experience in communications, marketing, writing, editing, or English Literature. Effective writing and editing skills required, writing sample may be requested. Exposure or experience in grant writing/reporting or non-profit fundraising would be advantageous. Experience in recruiting and managing volunteers preferred. Organizational skills, with an ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines. Comprehensive computer experience, including Microsoft products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Office, Teams) Excellent oral and written communication skills. Familiarity with or interest in the LGBTQ+ community.
