Nature of Work: Maryland Auto Is seeking an Internal Auditor. The successful candidate is responsible for conducting risk assessments and audits of the organization's financial, operational and compliance activities, and internal controls. The Internal Auditor may work in conjunction with an outsourced internal auditor to provide a well-rounded and comprehensive internal audit function. The Internal Auditor will report to both the Executive Director and the Audit Committee of the Board of Trustees and plays a critical role in ensuring the integrity, transparency, and efficiency of the organizations' operations and governance. In addition to the information contained in this position description, work standards are established by the department. The employee's performance is measured using these work standards. Major Responsibilities : Develop and execute a comprehensive internal audit plan based on risk assessments, regulatory requirements, and strategic priorities. Conduct financial, operational, and compliance audits to assess the effectiveness of internal controls, governance, and risk management processes. Evaluate the agency's adherence to applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies. Prepare detailed audit reports summarizing findings, risks, and recommendations for improvement. Present audit findings and recommendations to both the Executive Director and the Audit Committee of the Board of Trustees. Identify key areas of operational, financial, and compliance risk, and recommend appropriate mitigation strategies. Assist in the design and implementation of effective internal controls to safeguard assets, ensure data integrity, and prevent fraud. Review and monitor corrective actions taken by management in response to audit findings. Lead special audit projects, such as fraud investigations as requested by the Executive Director or the Audit Committee of the Board of Trustees. May provide support to external auditors during annual audit Collaborate with outsourced internal auditor. Collaboration may include risk assessment, conducting audits, or supporting an audit conducted by the outsourced internal auditor. Qualifications Qualifications Education and Experience Required: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field. A Master's degree or relevant certification (CPA, CIA, CISA) is preferred. Minimum of 5-7 years of auditing experience, preferably experience in the insurance industry. Demonstrated experience with internal control frameworks, risk management, and compliance standards. Strong understanding of accounting, auditing standards, and relevant regulations. Other Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Proficiency in auditing tools and methodologies. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills Attention to detail and strong follow through. Working independently, as well as with teams. Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate the highest ethical standards.
