About the Job About The Job: Sandy Spring Bank is currently recruiting for a Senior Portfolio Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for underwriting, servicing, and managing a substantial portfolio of business loans with varying degrees of complexity including C&I, Government Contracting, Asset Based Lending and some Real Estate. Additional duties include monitoring loan covenants and performing Portfolio Reviews as well as preparing problem loan reports as needed. The Sr. PM may also be called upon to participate in calling on prospective and existing clients to support and grow portfolio while maintaining satisfactory asset quality and sufficient returns. Functions as a Technical Expert for colleagues, and mentors and trains less experienced PMs. MAJOR JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES : 1. UNDERWRITING (45%) Demonstrates strong underwriting skills with new requests in addition to renewals, and restructures of existing loans. Performs and/or reviews financial analysis of borrower and determines strengths and weaknesses. Demonstrates strong understanding of businesses in varying industries and able to collaborate with SCO, RM and PMTL as needed. Prepares and presents Credit requests for approval. Presents the most complex credits and middle market companies to Senior Loan Committee. 2. PORTFOLIO MANAGEMENT (40%) Identifies problem assets and develops an action plan including restructuring; Collaborates with Portfolio Administrator and Relationship Manager to manage delinquencies, financial statement and documentation exceptions; Monitors past due and coming due loans; Maintains Guideline/ Policy exceptions within desired limits; Works with Loan Tracking Administrator to ensure that requests for financial statement information is sent out in a timely fashion, the ticklers are accurate and the letters are complete prior to sending; Provides follow-up assistance on collecting past due financial statements as needed. Demonstrates understanding of loan rating system and properly grades loans. Responds to client questions and requests promptly on an as needed basis. 3. LEADERSHIP (15%) Functions as a technical resource to members of the Commercial Relationship Management team. Responds to questions and requests promptly. Works in cooperation with Treasury Management, Credit, Loan Administration and other partners to resolve questions, complaints, and/or errors as needed. Mentors less experienced portfolio managers and provides guidance and assistance on various underwriting or portfolio management assignments. Collaborates with PMTL and Portfolio Group Manager on workflow strategies as needed accounting for experience, knowledge and workload of portfolio managers. 4. OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED. Required Skills KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Position requires a seasoned professional with a high level of experience underwriting complex C&I loans in a variety of industries and with a demonstrated understanding of various financial source documents. Though C&I underwriting is a focus in this position, experience underwriting commercial and residential real estate (CRE) loans as well as Government Contracting and Asset Based credit opportunities is a plus. In addition, broad experience in commercial banking combined with a thorough understanding of commercial banking concepts and practices is a requirement of this position. Ability to adapt effectively to change and work collaboratively with PMTL to provide leadership to PM team through evolving situations requiring analysis, interpretation and time sensitive resolution. Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills are required to present credit packages with varying degrees of complexity. Advanced problem-solving skills are needed to find solutions to problems that are technically complex and require the collection, interpretation and analysis of data from diverse sources. Analytical ability is required in researching problems and providing possible solutions. Must be able to evaluate alternative courses of action and their consequences on the organization. Position requires a BA degree in Business, Finance, or a related field. Must have 7-10 years of Commercial Credit underwriting experience. SPECIFIC PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work requires reasonable mobility in and around the work area. Ability to use standard computer and phone systems is required WORKING CONDITIONS: Normal office environment where there is almost no discomfort due to temperature, dust, noise, or other disagreeable elements. Work includes little or no potential exposure to hazardous conditions. Must be able to travel to remote company and/or client locations. Compensation Information At Sandy Spring Bank, compensation is one part of our total rewards package. Compensation within the range will depend on your skills, qualifications, education, experience, and location. Additionally, full-time and part-time positions may be eligible to participate in department or company-wide incentive plans. Salary Range USD $95,000.00 - USD $145,625.00 /Yr.
