Job Summary Physician Assistant will assist in the MBTA Medical clinic to facilitate physical assessment of MBTA employees/applicants for fitness for duties. Perform Physical examinations to determine fitness for work and/or hire. Duties & Responsibilities Serve as Medical Examiner and perform Department of Transportation (DOT) physical examinations. Review and make determinations on medical findings effecting an employee or applicant's ability to meet fitness for duty standards. Assist in instructing members of the clinical team with regard to EKG interpretation and technical aspects of taking EKGs evaluating blood pressure. Review complex medical documentation and findings and consult with employees and his/her physician to determine fitness for duty. Maintain medical standards for employment qualifications and Fit for Duty examinations. Consult with and review medical health policies on individual cases with Workers' Compensation, Labor Relations, Legal, Human Resources, and other departments as necessary. Assess vision and hearing metrics. Collaborate with the physician in the health care of patients with chronic illnesses. Perform all other duties and projects that may be assigned. Additional responsibilities may include focus on one or more departments or locations. See applicable addendum for department or location specific functions. Supervision None Minimum Requirements & Qualifications Bachelor's degree in science in Physician Assistant Studies or related degree from an accredited institution Certified Medical Examiner FMCSA (49 CFR 391.) Three (3) years of experience as a licensed physician assistant Registered medical examiner on the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners Massachusetts PA licensure through The National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) Ability to review complex medical documentation and findings. Experience in medical case management, and knowledge of Occupational Health in the workplace Experience with the chronic medical condition monitoring such as hypertension, diabetes, coronary conditions, medications, and mental health issues as they relate to the ability for an applicant/employee to safely perform their job duties. Familiar with assessing vision and hearing metrics Effective organizational, analytical, confidentiality, multi-tasking, time management and interpersonal skills Substitutions Include None. Preferred Experience and Skills Five (5) years of experience as a licensed physician assistant. Master's degree in science in Physician Assistant Studies. Two (2) years' experience as a Registered Medical Examiner on the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners. Two (2) years' experience of DOT physical examinations.
