Location: Utica, NY Category: Professional Posted On: Tue Jul Job Description: The Grant Writer will identify funding opportunities, draft proposals, prepare supporting documentation and reports to meet grant guidelines for submission by the Research Foundation Office as well as philanthropic proposals for submission by the SUNY Poly Foundation, and preparing associated research portfolio content to ensure the research and programmatic website content is maintained. The position is within the Office of the Provost with direct reporting to the Associate Provost for Research. Through strategic consultations with faculty and Principal Investigator's (PI) across each of the colleges on campus, identify well aligned funding opportunities from federal, state, and private partners and assist with fostering organizational relationships with these partners for future funding opportunities. Engage in strategic consultations with faculty, PIs and proposal teams, providing analysis of grant solicitations, feedback on grant-seeking strategies, advice based on prior submissions, and sponsor feedback. Partner with faculty principal investigators and assist with leading the development of large, interdisciplinary grant proposals, provide advanced editing and technical writing support for proposal materials, and shepherd proposals through to completion and submission. Provide a critical analysis and comprehensive editorial review of grant proposals, including significant input into the content, organization, wording, and delivery of the proposal narrative. Assist with formatting and editing of figures and other graphical elements. Work may include being the lead writer on non-technical applications. Identify resources both internal and external to the organization to support the grant proposal development process. Lead and coordinate with individuals at various levels and offices throughout the campus to shepherd projects (research and philanthropic) through the development and submission stages. Ensure successful integration of all grant components and compliance with all funding solicitation and sponsor requirements. This includes collaborating with Department/College fiscal and administrative staff. Develop and maintain proposal template materials and other resources. Ensure website content related to research and programmatic capabilities is updated and maintained. Other reasonable duties as assigned. Salary: $70,000 - $90,000 The above salary range may vary depending on experience. Job Requirements: Reporting Relationships: This position does not currently supervise employees but may be assigned direct reports as needed. Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's degree in a relevant writing-focused field and at least 5 years of progressively responsible experience writing and editing technical proposals or articles Evidence of technical/scientific writing ability, as demonstrated by writing samples. Ability to work flexibly, productively, and collegially with the writing of others. Strong organizational/leadership skills, with demonstrated success managing complex projects and leading projects/teams. Advanced communication, interpersonal, and a strong collaborative approach. Ability to thrive in a dynamic deadline-driven environment. The successful candidate is expected to have advanced technical writing skills, project management expertise, and proven experience leading the development of successful large collaborative proposals. Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated success in preparing grant proposals through award, or leading complex/interdisciplinary strategic initiatives. Advanced expertise in proposal development best practices. Advanced knowledge of the guidelines and requirements of federal sponsors.
