Summary of Responsibilities The role of the Data Scientist will be to build, maintain, test, and communicate a wide variety of predictive models and analyses that will help to inform all aspects of baseball operations. Essential Functions of the Job Build and support predictive models for player evaluation, player development, advance scouting, and other baseball-related topics. Assist in evaluating new sources of data for quality and predictive power. Work closely with data engineers, analytics engineers, and application developers in developing end to end analytical pipelines. Present conclusions and recommendations to others in Baseball Operations and incorporate their feedback. Help ensure that leaders in Baseball Operations have up to date information in terms of player projections and statistics. Assist with performing quality checks of data and model results and create processes to check for and clean poor-quality data. Education and Experience Required BS or MS in statistics, data science or related field. Proficiency in R and/or Python for data science. Proficiency in SQL, GIT. Ability to practically apply machine learning, advanced statistical methods, and deep learning to solve business problems. Ability to communicate and explain statistical topics to a wide variety of audiences. Education and Experience Preferred Familiarity with baseball-related data and analytics. Experience interacting with the cloud such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud.
