Administrative - Professional-Technical - Accountant Job Number Start Date Open Date 08/14/2024 Closing Date ACCOUNTANT SUMMARY DESCRIPTION Under general direction, performs various professional accounting responsibilities. Duties include preparation of reconciliations, preparing/maintaining accounting records and general ledger maintenance in a computerized accounting system. Incumbent performs related work as required. EXEMPLARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES When assigned to the Office of Business and Financial Services: Performs research and analysis as required; prepares bank reconciliations; maintains accounts receivable; financial statement preparation; maintains various subsidiary ledgers; prepares and posts journal entries; prepares schedules, costs analyses, and reports as needed; develops and maintains procedure manuals for the Business Office; monitors and documents the accounts payable, fixed assets, and payroll systems for quality assurance and operational efficiency; provides training, support and analytical review of Student Activity funds, and prepares sections of the CAFR; posts payrolls to the general ledger, transmits payroll check data to the District bank, works with payroll technicians to process payrolls, and processes tax payments to the IRS. When assigned to the Grant Department: Prepares all monthly financial reports in accordance with grant requirements; prepare monthly requests for reimbursement; monitors grant expenditures for compliance with federal, state or other grant requirements; inputs and monitors grant budgets; interacts with grant coordinators and other district personnel; assists in financial statement preparation; maintains various subsidiary ledgers; prepares and posts journal entries; prepares schedules, cost analyses, projections and reports as needed; performs research and analysis as required; develops and maintains procedure manuals; and monitors and documents the accounts payable and payroll systems for quality assurance and operational efficiency. EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS Education/Experience: Any combination of education and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be: Graduation from an accredited college or university in accounting; AND One (1) year of experience as a professional accountant. Experience in governmental organization is desirable. When assigned to Office of Business and Financial Services: Knowledge of: Principles of supervision; budgeting and budgeting control; proficient with Microsoft Office Suite computer applications; governmental accounting practices; pronouncements by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB); Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB); Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA), National Committee on Governmental Accounting (NCGA), and Municipal Finance Officers Association (MFOA). When assigned to Grant Department: Knowledge of: Principles of supervision; budgeting and budgeting control; proficient with Microsoft Office Suite computer applications; governmental accounting practices; pronouncements by the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB); Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB); Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA); OMB Circulars A-87, A-128 and A-133; and Compliance Supplement for Single Audits of State and Local Governments. Skill at: Analyzing and resolving problem situations; interacting effectively with a variety of professional personnel; communicating effectively; some functions in cash flow forecast and project projections; working independently with minimum supervision. Licenses/Certificates: Possession of a Certified Public Accountant Certificate is desirable. PHYSICAL DEMANDS : The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work. WORK ENVIRONMENT : The environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, libraries, residences, or commercial vehicles, e.g., use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, observance of fire regulations and traffic signals.
