This internship provides first-hand experience with day-to-day accounting operations at one of the top U.S. charities. You will gain valuable insights into strategies for success from our Leadership team in group advisory sessions covering the organization's Mission Delivery, Fund Development, Marketing & Communications, and Operations. Additionally, you'll get to see how a nonprofit operates differently from a for-profit corporation. The Accounting Intern will report to the Senior Director of Finance and work alongside the Accounting Manager and Staff Accountant to assist with general accounting functions including accounts payable, monthly ledger close, and other financial analyses. Daily Assignments will include: · Entering and coding vendor bills and workforce expense reports · Entering and coding donated wish expense · Reconciling general ledger accounts and other financial analyses · Other projects as assigned Time Commitment: 12-15 hours per week (hybrid work experience), including at least one in-office working day , from early January through end of May. It is required to attend our in-office orientation on Tuesday, January 7th, 2025. Requirements Skills and Abilities: · Excellent oral and written communication skills · Strong attention to detail · Proficiency with technology, including Microsoft Office, specifically Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word · Desire to contribute to the mission of Make-A-Wish Preferred Qualifications: · Accounting experience (educational or experiential) · Previous exposure to accounting operations Additional Requirements: · Must be able to commute to our downtown Chicago office · Minimum age for all internships is 18 · Selected candidates will be asked to participate in a criminal background check Benefits An internship at Make-A-Wish Illinois provides a unique opportunity to see how a renowned nonprofit organization runs from the inside.
