JOB SUMMARY: The National Aquarium is seeking an Audio Visual (AV) Technology Specialist to provide daily technical and aesthetic maintenance support for all electronic multimedia and interactive exhibits. Areas of responsibility include National Aquarium's interactive exhibits and AV exhibit systems, dolphin amphitheater, and the 4D immersion theater. The AV Technology Specialist performs repairs and scheduled preventive maintenance on AV and exhibit systems as required. Additional tasks include: Operate AV systems supporting The National Aquarium including sound, video, and lighting. Set up and operate AV equipment such as podiums, sound systems, video projection, etc. for meetings and special events. Aid the Director of AV Technology in the design and planning of new multimedia exhibits or other AV systems and/or maintenance & upgrade of components of existing systems or displays. KEY REQUIREMENTS: Technical knowledge to perform primary level of technical support for all multimedia and AV related exhibits, administered through rounds performed twice daily as scheduled. Familiarity of technical components and devices comprising National Aquarium's interactive exhibits and AV exhibit systems, including computers, microelectronics, electronic, and electro-mechanical devices. Upkeep of comprehensive technical system component instruction manuals, maintenance logs, warranty information and all other related documentation for reference use by AV section staff. Maintain an organized, clean and well-stocked technical shop used for in-house service and repairs. Support company mission. Adhere to all organizational and departmental policies and procedures. Other duties as assigned or required. POSITION-SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES: Experience with the operation and use of small hand tools, electronic test equipment, soldering iron, etc. Reading and understanding schematic diagrams showing AV systems structure and flow. Hook up and operation of a wide range of AV equipment for both permanent and temporary installations and/or setup. Well-developed communication skills in order to establish and maintain strong relationships with a wide variety of staff and volunteers as well as outside tech support resources and contractors. Able to work independently providing front line technical support and services in and around visitor public areas. Pursue new technologies for exhibit application. Research or learn from colleagues, periodicals, and expositions. Stay abreast of changing industry exhibit standards. Provide a positive, friendly, and professionally congenial attitude to support staff and attendees of meetings and special events where tech support is required. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Associates degree in electronics or related field, or completion of technical program and 3 years practical experience maintaining multimedia and AV equipment in a museum or comparable facility. Valid driver's license for institutional vehicle use. Able to work some evenings and weekend days according to the needs of The National Aquarium. TOTAL COMPENSATION INFORMATION: Hourly range ($20.88-26.60) with hours worked over 40 paid as overtime, holiday premium pay for essential personnel, and extra pay for night work. National Aquarium provides an excellent benefits package including four weeks paid time off, six paid floating holidays, up to four weeks of paid family leave and conservation day leave.Employees are eligible for health care (single and family) after 30 days of full-time work and 401(k) plan participation with employer match available.
