Our group, Machine Learning and Optimization (MLO) at Microsoft Research Redmond, works on fundamental and practical aspects of data-driven optimization. Examples include scaling huge optimization problems via ML, leveraging ML predictions for real-time control and using Large Language Models (LLMs) for algorithm design and interactive decision-making (e.g., for supply chain management and cloud resource allocation). Responsibilities You will design, develop and implement novel algorithmic solutions in collaboration with other researchers, engineers, and product groups. You will be expected to create innovative research prototypes and help build production systems and services. You will be a part of research breakthroughs in the intersection of machine learning and optimization and will be given an opportunity to realize your ideas in products and services used worldwide. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 4+ years technical engineering experience (including any graduate student experience) with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, or Python OR equivalent experience. Preferred Qualifications: PhD in Computer Science or related discipline. Experience in training language models (preferably in PyTorch). Proficiency in machine learning, deep learning, AI, and data science. Experience in optimization/algorithm design. Good publication record in ML conferences. Effective analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
