Title Code: Custodian: Lead This posting creates a pool of candidates for current and future positions that may become available. JOB SUMMARY Serves as a working leader who plans the general cleaning of a secondary school facility for the night custodial staff and maintains proper sanitary and operating standards. Additional Work Days/Hours Based on the assignment, the following additional work days and/or hours may be required as needed: Emergencies Evenings/Nights Inclement weather conditions Summer hours ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES Instructs employees in the proper use of building services, supplies, equipment and green cleaning procedures. Inspects all work completed by the nightshift team and maintains records of area inspections, training, and inventory and equipment maintenance. Operates and cares for powered equipment to scrub, wax, and buff floors, vacuum and clean carpeting according to written and oral instructions. Operates the heating, air conditioning and ventilating equipment within the school in a safe and efficient manner to assure the protection of the building occupants, structures, and equipment and to provide a comfortable interior climate within established guidelines. Makes minor maintenance repairs and adjustments such as cleaning clogged plumbing fixtures, replacing electric bulbs, fuses, and ballasts. Makes minor repairs to building, building equipment and furniture, and performing preventive maintenance tasks. Opens, closes, and locks buildings and gates for meetings and other evening activities. Monitors daily building security (including weekends and holidays) and responds to emergencies as directed. Oversees and participates in the snow removal program. Clears snow and ice from walkways; sands walkways, steps and landings to provide a safe passageway. Ensures entryways are dry and safe. Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower. Experience Two (2) years supervisory and/or lead experience and preferred; One (1) year professional cleaning, building equipment service or operator experience and preferred; One (1) year heating and cooling equipment experience preferred. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities deemed sufficient to prepare the applicant to successfully perform the duties of the position. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics Supervisory skills preferred. Ability to develop good leadership skills to motivate and encourage others. Ability to learn proper cleaning methods and become knowledgeable about products and equipment. Ability to effectively orient and train new employees. Ability to determine work priorities, especially during peak workload periods, using sound judgment in the application of standard operating procedures. Ability to inspect, monitor, and coordinate and to give appropriate feedback to custodial staff. Ability to operate and maintain a variety of hand and power custodial tools and equipment. Ability to practice safe work methods related to custodial work. Ability to learn proper mixing and diluting of cleansers, disinfectants, and cleaning agents. Ability to prepare and maintain basic records accurately. Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations. Ability to employ business technology tools as required of all AACPS employees, e.g. E-mail, obtaining relevant AACPS employee information through the AACPS Intranet, employing the electronic benefits enrollment tool and any other electronic tools implemented in the future. Must provide own basic hand tools as necessary. Licenses and Certifications Employee must retain active licenses, certifications, and enrollment as a condition of employment. Hold or be eligible for 4th Grade Stationary Engineer License issued by Maryland Board of Stationary Engineers preferred; or First available after appointment Introduction to School Facilities Boiler Plant Safety & Procedures Certificate issued by AACPS or equivalent outside course required; and Successful completion of Leadership Training or Certificate Course issued by AACPS or equivalent outside course preferred. or First available after appointment Leadership Training or Certificate Course issued by AACPS or equivalent outside course required.
