The CHEMOTHERAPY NURSE provides comprehensive care in an ambulatory setting or other healthcare setting for patients experiencing oncological disease processes being treated with antineoplastic agents and other therapies. The chemotherapy nurse works under the supervision of the physician and/or department manager. We are currently seeking an Oncology RN for 13-week contracts in the City of Chicago. EXPERIENCE: At least two years of experience as a certified chemotherapy nurse. Must be willing and competent to administer chemotherapy to cancer patients. CREDENTIALS: Cardiopulmonary resuscitation at the BLS/ACLS level; PALS may be required by some clients serving the pediatric population; health and screening tests as required by specific facilities and/or regulatory agencies; OCN and ONS chemotherapy certification. Covid 19 and current Flu vaccination. ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Various client facility settings; possible exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and other potentially infectious materials. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Complies with ATC policies/procedures. • Complies with client facility nursing policies/procedures. • Documents accurately and completely services provided. • Maintains confidentiality relative to patient care and facility practices in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. • Communicates information effectively to appropriate personnel. • Provides required care while maintaining a safe, therapeutic environment. • Provides patient services in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory manner that considers cultural diversity and age appropriateness so that autonomy, rights, and dignity are preserved • Advocates patient rights with respect to advance directives. • Provides continuous nursing assessments of patients' physical and emotional needs and corresponding therapeutic interventions. • Administers chemotherapy as ordered by the physician. • Administers immunotherapy, blood, and blood products. • Assists in symptom management. • Coordinates internal and external resources. • Ability to perform phlebotomy techniques. • Ability to access various chemotherapy ports and access lines. • Initiates cardiopulmonary resuscitation in age appropriate manner, in accordance with facility protocols, and applicable advance directives. • Maintains competency by participating in continuing education programs and meets state specific requirements. • Complies with accepted ethical conduct and professional standards of nursing practice as set forth by the American Nurses Association or equivalent nursing organization.
