Job Description SOUTH BAY SANDBLASTING & TANK CLEANING, INC. located in Norfolk, VA shipyard related subcontractor looking to hire an Environmental Health and Safety Technician Job Summary We're seeking an EH&S Technician with commitment to safety. The ideal candidate will provide a variety of duties including but not limited to Ship inspections, training, coordination of hazardous waste removal, sample collection, and more. Candidate can work in confined spaces and has no problem working long hours and weekends. Must be in Norfolk, VA, we are not looking to relocate candidates at this time. Responsibilities: Performs various physical duties as assigned Use proper PPE Ship inspections Correcting discrepancies Training Coordination of hazardous waste removal, shipyard hazardous material compliance Recordkeeping Sample collection Industrial hygiene surveys Accident investigations Provide safety data sheets Performs some specialized tasks which may require on-the job training Implement and follow the company's safety, quality, and environmental policies Qualifications: Ability to read labels, safety warnings, and guidelines Time management skills, minimal supervision, can manage time effectively Attentive to detail and alert always to ensure safety Able to receive and follow instructions and communicate with co-workers Two years of previous experience in EH&S Computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point Must be knowledgeable in OSHA Maritime Standards Good written and verbal communication skills Education Requirements: High school diploma or GED, B.A., Technical/Vocational trade school, or apprenticeship Must be certified HAZWOPER and 10-hour OSHA Maritime Safety Working Conditions and Physical Demands: Work is conducted indoors and outdoors frequently exposed to prevailing weather conditions. Work indoor or aboard vessel which may have fumes, chemicals, and heat as well as noise and dust present depending upon the location of work. Safety equipment required. The individual must be able to frequently climb inclined stairways and vertical. Work aboard the vessels can be strenuous and sometimes hazardous. Dynamic, fast-paced outdoor setting with moderate to loud noise levels from production activity in the shipyard. Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time. Must be flexible to work varying schedules and hours as needed.
