Position Overview: Children's Day Preschool (CDP) seeks a dedicated individual to fill our full-time position as a Staff Accountant. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Staff Accountant is an integral part of our small, highly productive, operations team. As our Staff Accountant, you will handle the day-to-day maintenance of all general ledger functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, journal entries, and bank reconciliations. You will also prepare and maintain all supporting documentation, schedules, and reports for the annual audit. Other accounting responsibilities include maintaining fiscal policies and internal controls to ensure organizational financial health and compliance with accounting standards necessary to facilitate CDP's mission and vision. An outstanding staff accountant candidate will also have excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills. Responsibilities & Essential Duties: Bookkeeping: Perform accounts payable functions including recording all invoices, investigating discrepancies, and ensuring that all invoices are processed and paid on a timely basis. Process and manage vendor payments through checks, ACH transfers, and wire transfers. Perform accounts receivable and cash receipts functions including recording all payments and processing cash receipts. Act as the primary contact for vendors, families, and staff when it comes to invoices. Payroll/Human Resource Functions: Prepare and process bi-weekly payroll. Ensure accurate recording of employee timesheets, including calculation of withholdings, and review benefit compliance. Assist with onboarding new staff; focusing on payroll, insurance, and 401 (k) enrollment. Oversees employee health benefits program and other Human Resource activities, e.g. vacation, sick and personal time off, disability, and 401(k). Month-End and Year-End Closing Processes: Perform month-end and year-end closing processes, including bank reconciliations, accrued and prepaid expense adjustments, receivables, and balance sheet account reconciliation. Prepare supporting documentation and take the lead on the annual audit and tax return preparation. Contracts, Grants, and Financial Analysis: Prepares and submits financial reports for grants/contracts on a monthly and/or quarterly basis; Analyze and Reconcile Balance Sheet and P&L Accounts and Analyze budget performance and identify issues that need more research. Other Financial, Strategy, and HR Tasks: Maintains sound fiscal policies, procedures & controls and performs other various accounting/financial tasks as required. Required Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or equivalent At least 3 years of relevant accounting experience preferred Nonprofit experience is preferred; motivation to work in this sector is essential. Proficiency in using Microsoft Office 365 (i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) Experience with automated accounting/payroll systems; working knowledge of QuickBooks Online is preferred Bilingual Spanish/English preferred, but not required Required Skills & Competencies: Effective oral and written communication skills with the ability to interact effectively across all levels of the organization Highly organized and detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task and prioritize daily work, multiple requests or assignments, and deadlines Excellent ability to work well in a team environment, and maintain good working relationships with staff, vendors, auditors, donors, and partners Strong administrative, problem-solving, and analytical skills Strong emotional intelligence Self-motivated and accountable Strong understanding of accounting and financial reporting principles and practices including GAAP AAP/EEO Statement Children's Day Preschool is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
