Job Description POSITION OVERVIEW: Under direction, implements, monitors, evaluates, and participates in the development of nursing educational programs, including nursing orientation programs, and other developmental activities in an assigned health care setting. Conducts training and ongoing competency assessment to align nursing educational opportunities with health care setting goals, operational standards, and educational priorities. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Plans, organizes, coordinates, and evaluates specialized programs, such as the Nurse Aide Training Program (NATP), Simulation Lab, Unit-based Competencies, dialysis, telemetry, memory care unit, traumatic brain injury, etc., in the post-acute setting. 2. Coordinates nursing educational programs and activities for an assigned health care setting; provides continuous education and training to nursing staff; and assesses the educational needs of staff. 3. Participates in planning and conducting nursing staff development programs. 4. Plans, organizes, coordinates, and evaluates in-service nursing orientation; maintains a system of records of in-service orientation, staff development, and educational activities; and monitors and submits all other mandatory work and regulatory reports. 5. Identifies and collects information related to learning needs and collaborates with members of multiple disciplines in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of effective nursing education and training programs; serves as a resource for all nursing educational inquiries and issues. 6. Conducts program evaluations that measure learning impact and outcomes against strategic goals and objectives of the health care setting to enhance the effectiveness of clinical care and employee performance. 7. Assesses learners' progress, and interprets appropriate information necessary to revise and/or adjust orientation, competencies, lesson plans, educational activities and teaching techniques, as needed. 8. Contributes to competency assessment by monitoring nursing staff's knowledge and compliance, to ensure that national Patient Safety Goals are maintained, and by participating in competency validation of newly-appointed staff; maintains professional competence through participation in continuing education programs, activities, and other appropriate learning opportunities. 9. Serves on nursing and health care setting committees, as assigned, and develops and directs continuous quality improvement programs that achieve targeted patient quality of care outcomes. 10. Instructs and provides in-service education for new products, equipment, and changes or updates to nursing departmental orientation procedures. 11. Identifies and implements nursing evidence-based methodologies and/or best practices; develops programs based on the American Nurses Association (ANA) Standards. 12. Develops teaching and learning strategies and methodologies to promote participant engagement. 13. Possesses a strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications including but not limited to Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. 14. Participates in special projects, including interviewing new hires. 15. Schedules routine and intermittent In-Service education utilizing Peoplesoft to track attendance and completion of assigned coursework through Peoplesoft ELM. 16. Prepares a yearly calendar of educational events. Minimum Qualifications 1. A valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State; and 2. Holds, or obtains through facility orientation, a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA); and 3. A Master's Degree in Nursing, or a related nursing or education field, from an accredited college or university; and 4. Three (3) years of experience as a registered nurse in specialty area(s), including: a) One (1) year providing nursing education and training in specialty area(s); or b) Holds a valid and current certification as a Nurse Educator. DEPARTMENTAL PREFERENCES: 5. Prior experience working in the skilled nursing/long-term care setting 6.
