The Manufacturing Maintenance and Engineering Manager oversees the maintenance and engineering teams at the Waukesha Plant to ensure optimal performance and reliability of manufacturing equipment and processes. The manufacturing operation runs 3 shifts, 7 days a week for a $100MM operation as a leading manufacturer of high quality roof edge metal products for Carlisle Architectural Metals. This role involves developing and implementing maintenance strategies, managing repair and upgrade projects, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. The manager collaborates with production teams to minimize downtime and improve operational efficiency while leading continuous improvement initiatives. Strong leadership, technical expertise, and project management skills are essential to drive productivity and support the company's manufacturing goals. Duties and Responsibilities: Safety and Compliance Considers safety throughout the operation a top priority and ensures all personnel are adhering to set policies and procedures Continuously analyzes processes for safety improvement opportunities Ensures compliance with all OHSA guidelines and Carlisle Safety Standards Maintains a safe and clean working environment Troubleshooting and downtime minimization Personally, or through the direction of subordinates, troubleshoots, diagnoses, and repairs a variety of shop machinery and equipment, including, but not limited to, Shears, Press Brakes and Turrets, often with the use of electrical and hydraulic schematics Troubleshoots PLC systems and Robotic equipment by utilizing programming logic when required Maintains ongoing communication with all relevant departments regarding equipment downtime Ensures maintenance support is available during all manufacturing hours including night and weekend shifts Facility Maintenance and troubleshooting Performs basic and routine facilities maintenance, construction, and repair tasks according to service, quality, and safety standards Evaluates current and potential external service contracts for building and grounds maintenance where appropriate and provides recommendations to management team Preventive Maintenance Maintains equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed equipment, parts, and supplies; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt Ensures the proper operation of machinery and equipment by ensuring scheduled and assigned preventive maintenance tasks and work orders are completed on time Maintains accurate and comprehensive records through the development and use of maintenance software Product and Process Optimization Works with the design engineering team as needed to design, implement, and refine product development, testing, and new manufacturing processes Evaluates current product manufacturing processes for efficiency improvement and cost reduction opportunities Evaluates equipment downtime, capacity, efficiency and safety data to recommend improvement or replacement Provides recommendations and analysis of annual department and capital budgets Evaluates and tests new equipment and technologies as needed Prepares and implements full qualification and onboarding plans for all new equipment - Installation, Operation and full Process testing Collaborate with cross functional teams to implement engineering solutions and upgrades Serves as project manager for multiple projects, creating timelines and cost projections, organizing collaborative meetings, allocating resources and ensuring projects comply with specifications, timelines, and budgets. Effectively collaborates with vendors and internal departments, such as scheduling, to minimize impact to shop productivity Prepares comprehensive proposals for new product and process optimization projects that include ROI calculations, safety improvements, capacity increases and other relevant factors Leadership & Management Supervises all maintenance and manufacturing engineering personnel. Responsible for employee training, development, engagement and retention. Participates in recruitment preparation/job scoping, review resumes, participate in interviews and selects candidates to ensure the department is fully staffed in cooperation with Human Resources. Develops, implements, maintains, and revises, effective training documentation and schedules for every position in the department Ensures training plans encompass a comprehensive understanding of equipment and technologies to effectively provide support to production teams during all hours of operation. Personally, or through the direction of subordinates, provides training to production workers on routine preventive maintenance techniques and monitors compliance Evaluates employee performance for productivity and quality Actively addresses employee conduct and performance issues in a consistent and timely manner Holds employees accountable and carries out disciplinary action or corrective coaching where needed with appropriate documentation and performance plans. Manages employee's time; reviews, updates and approves employee timecards and/or paid-time-off requests and ensures accuracy Continuous Improvement Expectation to understand, participate in, and support company COS initiatives, with focus on developing a lean mindset. Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance maintenance practices, engineering processes, and overall operational efficiency. Stay current with industry trends, technological advancements, and best practices to ensure the company remains competitive and innovative. The individual will experience moderate factory noise, welding illumination, and occasionally work outdoors during loading. The incumbent will typically work independently and without direct assistance or supervision. PPE must be worn as required including but not limited to Steel toed shoes and safety glasses. The incumbent occasionally performs work-related travel, less than 10% of the time. Additionally, some special projects, initiatives, or intermittent business needs may require the flexibility to work on alternate day or shift hours for extended periods of time
