Fire Protection Engineer, Junior Job Code: FIRENG04 Grade Level: 10 (Exempt) Fire Protection Engineer, Senior Job Code: FIRENG03 Grade Level: 12(Exempt) PER FPB Policy FBP-HR-PRO-00001: Internal employees must be in current position for (1) year or greater to be eligible to apply. Position Overview Under general supervision, responsible for various elements of support and provides fire protection engineering support as needed to implement the site wide fire protection program. The specific work assignment may include duties or activities that assist and support management in one of or more of the following functional areas, in addition to other duties as assigned: Assists with providing fire protection engineering support as needed to implement the site wide fire protection program. Provide administrative support for projects by collecting data, providing project documentation, training staff, and performing other general administrative duties. Conducts various tasks under the close guidance of the Fire Protection Engineering personnel. Assists with providing fire protection engineering support of all site work groups as needed in areas such as procedures, work planning, work scheduling, emergency response testing and inspection, general inspection, testing and preventive maintenance. May assist with preparation and development of procedures for Fire Protection and Fire Services documents to meet DOE, NFPA and other requirements as necessary. May assist with supporting Emergency Management and Emergency Response Organization as assigned. Provides support in the review of less complex documents required for new construction or modification of existing facilities to determine appropriate fire prevention. Prepares records and reports on fire investigations. Other job related duties as assigned Maintains working knowledge of and demonstrates ability to perform work safely in accordance with all approved safety policies, procedures and applicable regulations and performs assigned duties in a safe manner. If supervising others, has responsibility for the safety of those being supervised and ensures they comply with established safety policies and procedures and practice safe work habits Actively participates in Safety Work Groups Working Conditions Ability to support or participate in emergency responses Work in an environmental restoration atmosphere (outdated and/or abandoned facilities). Potential exposure to equipment movement hazards, dangerous chemicals/solvents or hazardous and radioactive materials if proper safety procedures are not followed. Ability to wear respirator and other protective equipment to enter various types of potentially hazardous areas (such as but not limited to chemical, dust fumes, mists, heat stress factors, etc.). Ability to carry several instruments/equipment or tools while walking extensively. Potential prolonged walking/standing, repeated pushing/pulling. Environmental conditions may include weather or temperature extremes, inclement weather (such as but not limited to wind, rain, excessive heat, excessive cold, snow/ice, etc.) May be required to operate company vehicle during the course of work. Required Skills Required Experience BS degree in Engineering and a minimum 4 years' experience, three of which are were in diverse fire protection engineering work. Typical experience ranges from 4 - 6 years. In lieu of an engineering degree, must have demonstrated knowledge of principles of fire protection engineering, with three years of diverse fire protection engineering experience, or be a registered professional engineer in fire protection. Qualifications: Accurate data entry skills with knowledge of basic keyboarding Professional and courteous telephone skills Excellent oral and written communication skills with ability to communicate clearly by telephone on in person Ability to file numerically and alphabetically Knowledge and thorough understanding of medical office procedures Knowledge of confidentiality and release of information Ability to work under pressure Skilled at managing multiple priorities Sufficient knowledge of insurance plans to correctly assess need for prior authorization of procedures and referrals and to interpret patient financial information Medical terminology Typing speed and accuracy in order to correctly enter needed volume of data on computer and query accounts while talking with patient on the telephone.
