Salary : $37,734.61 Annually Location : College Park, GA Job Type: Full-Time Job Number: Department: Sanitation Opening Date: 10/18/2024 FLSA: Non-Exempt Summary A successful candidate will play an active role in the City of College Park's existing operational success. The purpose of the position is to maintain sanitation and refuse collection. Successful performance helps ensure timely collection of garbage and a positive public image for the City. Essential Functions Independent judgment is required to identify, select and apply the most appropriate of available guidelines and procedures as well as interpret precedents. This position is responsible for manual work of a routine nature that involves heavy physical labor as a member of a sanitation crew. Delivers garbage carts for new City residential sanitation customers; retrieves carts when service is discontinued. Picks up household and bulk yard debris and loads contents onto a sanitation truck; may handle special refuse collection requests as directed by the Sanitation Superintendent. Cleans sanitation truck daily. May assist other Public Works divisions in the maintenance of City grounds and streets. Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards. Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that logically relate to the position. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of City and departmental policies and procedures. Knowledge of occupational hazards, safety rules and regulations. Knowledge of refuse collection procedures and applicable codes pertaining to refuse collection. Skill in performing general equipment maintenance duties. Ability to interpret instructions and efficiently carry them out with minimal supervision. Ability to perform heavy manual labor. Ability to deal courteously and tactfully with residential customers and the general public. Ability to follow necessary safety precautions in all areas of assignment. Ability to perform tasks involving heavy manual labor. Effective analytical and decision-making skills. Excellent communication (oral and written), organizational, and time management skills. Effective interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse constituents. Attention to detail and adaptability to a changing environment is extremely important as well as dependability. Demonstrate a high level of professionalism, initiative, resourcefulness, and personal accountability. Moderate physical activity. Requires handling objects of average-weight up to one hundred (100) pounds, standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day, climb poles, bending, crouching, or stooping, and use tools and equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and distinguish between shades of color. Requests to facilitate the performance of essential functions will be given careful consideration. Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent (GED). One (1) to three (3) years of related experience. Possession of a valid Driver's License issued by the State of Georgia. Experience in communicating with diverse communities, and in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships. Proficiency in MS Office Suite, as well as knowledge and understanding of the organizational structure, workflow, and operating procedures. Extensive hours and weekends will be required at times.
