New England Donor Services (NEDS) coordinates organ and tissue donation in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, the eastern counties of Vermont and Bermuda. Responsible for one of the largest of the 56 Organ Procurement Organizations (OPOs) that make up the nation's donation system, NEDS works with over 200 hospitals and serves nearly 15 million people in our region, screening nearly 55,000 potential donor referrals annually. With approximately $110M in operating revenues, NEDS employs 348 clinical and non-clinical staff members throughout New England and across the country. Job Description POSITION SUMMARY: The Hospital Donation Strategist is the primary NEDS representative and advocate for donation in hospitals within the NEDS Donation Service Area (DSA). The Hospital Donation Strategist partners with NEDS Team members and hospital leaders to create and maintain a collaborative environment to promote donation in hospitals and develop data-driven strategic initiatives that improve the organ and tissue donation process. FOCUS AREAS/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS : Under the direction of the Donation Strategy Leadership, the Hospital Donation Strategist will institute strategic initiatives and perform tasks outlined below that foster a culture of donation advocacy and compliance: Function as the primary NEDS contact within a hospital(s) as it relates to all aspects of organ and tissue donation and maintains a high level of presence and visibility. Develop and implement annual hospital strategic plans designed to effectively incorporate all points of influence within the hospital, align donation within existing hospital systems, and optimize rates of donation and transplantation. Actively participate in donation/referral events including but not limited to: first response, chart review, collaboration and planning with hospital and NEDS staff, setting up a Collaborative Donation Process and leading the donation discussion if necessary. Perform ongoing assessment of hospital culture, and the existing hospital systems, structures and processes utilized to most effectively create internal change. In collaboration with NEDS team members, ensure NEDS maintains a regular in-house presence and visibility in assigned hospitals; make routine visits to key hospital units, while cultivating strategic relationships with key hospital staff and leadership to improve donation outcomes. Follow-up on-site with hospital staff after donation/referral events. Facilitate formal clinical case debriefings in conjunction with NEDS colleagues and other hospital team members. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal NEDS donation services staff to foster interdependence and enhance collaboration. Maintain knowledge of current relevant information and trends related to donation and transplantation. Create and conduct current and relevant professional education offerings designed to maximize donation rates. Maintain a high level of awareness around donation in hospitals via publications, websites, materials in public places, etc. Track and report hospital donation process data on a regular basis. Analyze data to characterize donation and transplant potential, identify optimal processes and practices, identify compromised processes and variability in practice, and identify key individuals involved in the end-of-life continuum and donation process. Complete all required documentation and data entry consistent with NEDS SOPs and HD standards. Handle other duties as deemed suitable by the Manager, Director and/or Senior Vice President of Organ Donation. Training: May on-board or train new employees either within the Hospital Donation Strategist role or provide a general overview of hospital development to new hire employees outside of this role. Clinical: Ability to analyze and interpret information within a patient medical record for purposes of Death Record Review. May be tasked with documenting a basic chart review on a referral made to NEDS or received during standard rounding in hospitals. Provides on-site response to referrals and cases as needed to support ODS Optimization team members. This may include documenting and communicating essential information to both hospital partners and essential NEDS staff. Qualifications KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Skilled Presenter : Responsible for development and delivery of all departmental presentations. Data Analysis : ability to collect, analyze, and present data to identify patterns, trends, and relationships among variables. Data Visualization : skilled in data visualization and storytelling for business leaders, learners, and their managers by using data visualization techniques-flow charts, graphs, plots, word clouds, heat maps, and infographics. Computer & Application Literacy : proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, Learning Management Systems, instructional technologies including Zoom, and ability to learn NEDS' internal systems including, but not limited to, True North, SharePoint. Interpersonal and Communication Skills: strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills. Ability to critically think, problem solve, and work productively both independently and as a team participant. Skilled in active listening and proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential information. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's Degree in health administration, healthcare marketing or a related field or equivalent experience. Clinical degree and/or Master's Degree a plus. Minimum of 2 years of related professional experience. OPO experience a plus as well. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Required to travel by personal vehicle and NEDS authorized vehicles to meet the duties and responsibilities of this position. Must maintain the requirements of an "eligible driver" including maintaining an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) and required minimum personal automobile insurance per NEDS automobile policy. Valid state driver's license required. This position will be hybrid with travel to hospitals is required.
