Learn more about American University Department: Treasury Operations Time Type: Full time Work Modality: Hybrid 02 (On Campus 2 days/Week) Union: Excluded Job Description: Summary: The position works closely with the Director, Treasury Operations to monitor and analyze the university's cash and short-term investment accounts. This position initiates domestic and international wires and ACH tax payments on behalf of the university and reconciles the operating account daily. This position will also monitor bank fees, earnings credit rate, and short-term interest rates and manage the day-to-day banking needs of the university. This position assists the Director in preparing operating cash flow projections to determine short-term cash flow needs and the proper investment of excess cash balances. This position will work with the Endowment & Treasury team to provide analysis, due diligence, and research on the University's endowment portfolio. They will contribute to quantitative and qualitative research at the portfolio, asset class, and manager level. This position will work with the Director, Treasury Operations and University consultants to manage the University's PCI compliance initiative. Additionally, this position will help maintain the credit card activity of University merchants including analyzing credit card volume and fees. This position will manage the university's stock gift account, as well as track and maintain the Treasury Operations Office annual supply budget. This position will provide reporting to the Director, Treasury Operations, and the Assistant Vice President of Endowment & Treasury Management. This position is also responsible for providing administrative and general office support to the Treasury Operations office. Issues university wire and tax payments and reconciles the operating cash balance daily. Records Ad-Hoc bank activity in the University's ERP system (Workday). Performs daily corporate cash management and forecasting activities; gathers, analyzes, and interprets cash flow and other financial data; determines daily cash balances available for investment; initiates fund movement transfers. Allocates and invests excess cash balances in accordance with policy. Prepares and analyzes investment and cash management schedules and other related ad hoc reports and helps project annual investment income to report to senior leadership. Provides analytical support for monitoring the portfolio composition, asset allocation, and overall investment strategy of the University's endowment. Identifies and compiles data as needed for manager and market analysis. Participates in the diligence of prospective opportunities and oversight of existing managers. Creates and maintains investment models and tools. Provide analysis needed to support financial reporting including gathering information, reviewing third-party documents, and assessing valuations. Reviews, analyzes, and reconciles performance reports prepared by third parties. Assesses reports to identify trends and takeaways that may be relevant to team discussions. Works with University consultants to conduct annual interviews of all campus merchants and third-party vendors; documenting process deficiencies, controls, and policy. Tracks credit card fees by merchant ID and provides expense allocation data to the Controller's office monthly. Maintains and analyzes credit card transaction data for internal purposes. Manages the university's inventory of merchant IDs on an ongoing basis as well as the university's PCI compliance training program. Assists the Director, Treasury operations in completing the University's SAQ and Attestation of Compliance on an annual basis. Completes other tasks as needed to ensure the university's maintains PCI compliance. Prepare monthly liquidity reporting for submission to the University's rating agencies and assist the Director, Treasury Operations and Assistant Vice President of Endowment & Treasury Management in preparing schedules, forms, and presentations for the University's rating agencies. Reconciles all debt interest payments, initiates wire payments, and records transactions in the University's ERP system (Workday). Tracks and analyzes the university's banking fees and compares them to industry standards. Tracks the university's earnings credit rate and short-term investment rates. Monitors and assigns values to all University stock gifts and produces related financial reports. Executes investment trades received from the SMIF and REIT student groups with BNY Mellon in support of the SMIF and REIT accounts. Competencies: Serving Customers. Prioritizing and Organizing. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: Full-Time. 35 hours per week. Required Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree or equivalent. 2-4 years of relevant experience. Work experience in accounting, finance, banking or equivalent in education and training. MS Office Suite skills- Excel, Word, Outlook. Excellent written and communication skills. Excellent organization skills and attention to detail is required. Excellent project and time management skills. Analytical skills and understanding of finance and investing concepts. Ability to take initiative and multi-task under pressure.
