Job Description This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Reporting to the Director of Finance & Human Resources, the Staff Accountant is responsible for providing the Y with accounting services, ensuring effective, efficient and accurate financial operations and reporting. Qualifications 1. Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field preferred with a minimum of 1 year relevant professional experience. Nonprofit experience a plus. 2. Knowledge of general ledger and accounting functions 3. Knowledge of payroll functions and procedures. 4. Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy in preparing and entering financial and payroll information. 5. Confidentiality concerning financial and employee information. The candidate should be honest, trustworthy and demonstrate sound work ethics. 6. Excellent interpersonal skills. 7. Must have the ability to work independently. 8. Must possess analytical, problem solving and decision making skills 9. Effective organizational and time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines. 10. Knowledge of, and expertise with, computerized accounting systems and standard business software such as Excel and Word. 11. Excellent oral and written communication skills. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The position requires the ability to sit, walk or stand for extended period of time, repetitive motion of the fingers and hands, the ability to lift/carry up to 25 pounds, ability to see close work (i.e. typed work), good hearing and the ability to communicate through speech. Essential Functions 1. Processing and monitoring of cash receipts through computerized accounting software. 2. Maintains updated vendor files. 3. Processing of all vendor invoices, including receiving and verifying invoices for receipt of goods and services and account coding, entering invoices in computerized accounting software, managing the bi-weekly check run, preparing checks for mailing and reconciling purchase journal to the general ledger. 4. Responsible for creating the monthly accounts receivable report and working with the directors to resolve outstanding balances. 5. Verifies employee expense reimbursement requests and ensures approvals are secured to process with bi-weekly payroll. 6. Responsible for petty cash reconciliation and reimbursement. 7. Completes the monthly bank reconciliation for all accounts including identifying any stale checks or outstanding deposits and following up as required. 8. Responds to all staff and vendor financial inquiries 9. Responds to and monitors credit card disputes. 10. Responsible for subsidy payment requests and check processing. 11. Assists Director of Finance & Human Resources with the monthly close process including month-end journal entries and preparation of monthly financial reports. 12. Participates in the annual budget and audit process. 13. Perform other duties as needed.
