What You'll Do The Controller will lead the organization's accounting operations, overseeing month-end close, financial reporting, tax compliance, risk management, systems management (G/L), strategic support, treasury management, and team leadership. This role emphasizes collaboration, strategic thinking, and building a supportive and inclusive team environment. Salary range is $130,000 - $150,000 plus 20% annual discretionary bonus Accounting Oversight and Management: Provide strategic leadership for accounting functions, including general ledger accounting, analysis, treasury, audit, and tax (domestic and international). Ensure accurate and timely month-end closing. Supervise the preparation and analysis of financial statements for internal, external, and ad-hoc requests. Manage annual audits and tax preparation (Form 990), maintaining close partnerships with audit and tax teams. Stay updated on relevant regulations. Oversee treasury management functions, ensuring liquidity needs are met and controls are secure. Ensure compliance with GAAP, FASB, and other regulatory standards. Policy and Compliance: Foster an environment of strong internal controls across the organization. Develop infrastructure and systems of controls, aligned with organizational goals, to support accurate financial reporting. Team Leadership and Development: Lead, support, and mentor the accounting team (including accounts payable, general ledger, tax, and treasury), encouraging growth and development through guidance and ongoing feedback. Create opportunities for team members to develop skills and set career goals, fostering a positive, inclusive, and collaborative team culture. Strategic Collaboration, Support & Communication: Partner with IT and Project Management to identify and implement process improvements. Build and maintain strong relationships across the organization, acting as a knowledgeable and responsive business partner. Communicate effectively with stakeholders, including management, auditors, and external parties, prioritizing high-quality service and support. Supervisory Responsibilities: Recruit, onboard, and train new team members. Oversee daily workflow, providing clear and constructive feedback through regular check-ins and performance evaluations. Set team and individual goals, supporting professional growth and development. Approve time off requests and manage schedules, ensuring a healthy work-life balance. What You Bring: Bachelor's degree in accounting; CPA certification required. 10-15 years of experience in accounting, with leadership experience preferred. In-depth knowledge of non-profit accounting, including GAAP compliance. Familiarity with exempt organization tax regulations. Ability to manage multiple projects and adapt to changes in a dynamic environment. Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on collaboration and support. Commitment to fostering an inclusive, respectful, and positive workplace culture. Ability to mentor, develop, and empower staff. Physical Requirements: Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Willingness to travel as required.
