This full-time, exempt position will bring support to our passion for building a sustainable community of artists, audiences, and students through high-quality performances, commissions, training, and educational programs. This is an onsite work opportunity with an annual salary range of $50,000 - $60,000. For more information on our amazing organization, please visit our site at POSITION OVERVIEW The Operations Manager plays a crucial role in fostering synergistic relationships between all departments, ensuring the smooth operation of Dance Place facilities, infrastructure, and events.. This position requires close collaboration with various directors and managers to oversee facility usage, venue maintenance, and staff training to deliver exceptional customer service. Key responsibilities include managing daily operations, contributing to a positive team culture, maintaining a safe work environment, and facilitating ongoing operational tasks and projects. Reporting to the Finance & Operations Director, the Operations Manager also oversees the organization's administrative functions and ensures that all spaces are accessible and compliant with health, safety, and accessibility standards ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES At a minimum, the Operations Manager role will be responsible for successfully carrying out the following essential functions and duties: Facility Management Budget and track operations revenue and expenses, including maintenance, and other facility-related expenses and supplies needs. Oversee the use, maintenance, and inventory of all Dance Place facilities and equipment, including refrigeration, plumbing, laundry machines, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), tables, chairs, etc. Develop and implement policies and procedures to improve operational efficiency and organizational effectiveness. Monitor staff and customer feedback to identify areas for improvement and ensure a positive customer experience. Provide a high level of customer service to all artists, patrons, and program stakeholders. Assist in the distribution and administration of property assets, including keys, key cards, laptop devices, etc. Ensure spaces are clean, stocked, safe, and remain ready for public use. Provide general office administrative oversight and support as needed. Staff & Contract Vendor Coordination Support special patron-facing projects in conjunction with other organizational departments as needed. Recruit, hire, manage, train, and schedule House Managers, Box Office Associates, Ushers, Concessions, and other support staff to ensure exceptional customer experiences at all engagements. Hire, manage, train, and schedule the Facilities Technician, Housekeeping, and Janitorial staff. Administer the email account and manage the voicemail system. Serve as Manager on duty at events as needed which may be held during evenings and weekends. Coordinate and collaborate with leadership on staffing for large events, such as the DC Dance Festival and Dance Africa. Ensure a clear line of communication with all house personnel regarding special scenarios (sold-out shows, VIP receptions, etc.). Schedule and serve as the onsite point of contact for outside service vendors. Ensure all staff are appropriately trained on laws, regulations, and best practices for responsible alcohol service. Rentals Management Collaborate with the Communications team to actively seek new renters for Dance Place-managed spaces. Manage rental schedules and calendars, event logistics (rental reservations, setup and breakdown plans, etc.), and ensure appropriate day-of event support and staffing for several spaces, including Brookland Artspace Lofts Studio, Hyman M. Perlo Studio, Cafritz Theater, and the Edgewood Arts Center. Handle all correspondence with potential and current renters and manage rental agreements and payments. Ensure that the email account is being administered in a timely manner. Accessibility & Safety Seek and provide general health and safety knowledge of theater, dance studio, and ancillary spaces to ensure best practices. Liaise with accessibility consultants, and ASL interpreters as needed to support ongoing operations. Serve as the lead for the Emergency Preparedness Committee, advising staff, coordinating staff training, and maintaining Emergency Procedures with special regard to facility, security, patron safety, and Front of House assistance to support those with diverse abilities. *These lists are not all-inclusive, as other duties may be assigned as needed. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES The Operations Manager carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Dance Place's policies and all applicable laws. This role has oversight and is responsible for managing the overall direction, coordination, assignment of tasks, and performance appraisal for the following position: House Managers, Box Office Associates, Ushers, Concessions, Housekeeping, and various facilities, maintenance, service, and operational contract vendors. Additional supervisory responsibilities may include interviewing, hiring, training, rewarding, and disciplining direct reports as well as addressing complaints and resolving problems within the Finance & Operations Department. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: EXPERIENCE AND OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES Education: High school diploma or diploma equivalent (i.e., GED) is required. Experience: Minimum of three years of proven experience in Operations management is required. Other Necessary Skills and Abilities: Proven familiarity with maintenance and facilities oversight. Knowledge of accessibility and safety practices. Ability to work independently and collaboratively across all departmental groups. Exceptional customer service skills and professional demeanor at all times. Strong organizational, multitasking, and time management skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends. Computer/Technology Skills: Google Suite (Google Docs, Google Sheets, Gmail) or similar web applications for day-to-day office administration tasks. Physical Demands: This position requires the ability to sit and stand for prolonged times; walk moderate distances; frequently lift/carry up to 25 lbs.; occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, or crouch; frequently communicate verbally with others; view a computer screen for prolonged periods; and repetitive motions with wrists, hands, and fingers due to typing. DESIRED SKILLS, QUALITIES, AND ABILITIES (not required) Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Arts Management, , or other related field is desired. Prior experience working in a performing arts or events environment is highly preferred. An appreciation for the art of dance and Dance Place's mission. Positively contribute to Dance Place's workplace culture and values. WORK ENVIRONMENT Our staff is diverse, small, lively, and highly collaborative. We have frequent interactions with visiting teachers, artists, and students of all ages. While some of Dance Place staff currently work a hybrid schedule, splitting time between our main office in Washington, DC, and remote work, the Operations Manager is primarily an onsite position.
