EXAM NUMBER J7269Q TYPE OF RECRUITMENT OPEN COMPETITIVE JOB OPPORTUNITY DEFINITION Performs journey-level plumbing work in the installation, alteration, maintenance, and repair of plumbing and related systems. CLASSIFICATION STANDARDS Positions allocable to this class typically report to a Senior Plumber or higher level craft supervisor and use a variety of hand tools and power equipment in the installation, alteration, maintenance, or repair of plumbing fixtures or systems. Incumbents are required to have a working knowledge of plumbing sufficient to independently perform all the essential elements of work common to the plumbing craft and sufficient to train and provide technical supervision for apprentices and helpers. Incumbents are also required to have a working knowledge of the Uniform Plumbing Code related to their craft. Essential Job Functions Installs piping for hot and cold water, waste sewage, vent and leader lines, gas, compressed air, etc. Installs and inspects piping of all types of materials subject to the plumbing code. Installs or assembles fixtures and appliances connected to plumbing and drainage systems. Locates and removes stoppage in waste lines. Inspects water mains, fire hydrants, and service lines. Determines reasons for operating malfunctions in piping systems and makes appropriate repairs. Maintains tools and equipment used in the plumbing trade in a safe, working condition. Assists and consults with other plumbers and trades people. Performs brazing and soldering work connected with plumbing. Drives automotive equipment in order to transport tools, equipment, materials, and personnel. Requirements MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OPTION I: Completion of a recognized plumber apprenticeship training program. Recognized plumber apprenticeship training program is defined as an approved agency, such as the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry. For this option, applicants must submit a photocopy of the certificate of completion of a recognized plumber apprenticeship training program WITH your online application at the time of filing or within seven (7) calendar days from the date of application filing. Applicants who fail the pre-investigative questionnaire will be disqualified and will have to wait twelve (12) months from the date of the disqualification in order to reapply. Additional Information EXAMINATION CONTENT This examination will consist of a structured Interview evaluating applied experience and training, planning and prioritizing, working independently, judgment and safety, interpersonal skills, and verbal communication; and a Performance exam evaluating basic plumbing tools, brazing equipment, flush valve parts, plan interpretation, and technical questions, weighted 100%. APPLICANTS MUST MEET THE REQUIREMENTS AND ACHIEVE A PASSING SCORE ON THE EXAMINATION IN ORDER TO BE PLACED ON THE ELIGIBLE REGISTER.
