This is an in-person role in our NYC office with some flexibility to work remotely. About the Role: Ash is looking for a Controller to lead the company's financial and accounting operations. As the Controller, you will be a core part of the company's leadership team, responsible for maintaining and improving financial systems and processes. You will oversee all accounting-related functions, ensure compliance with financial regulations, and provide accurate and timely financial reporting. You will report directly to the CEO and have a critical role in supporting strategic planning and decision-making through detailed financial analysis and forecasting. Initially, you will be a team of one with the opportunity to build out the finance function as we scale. This is a Hybrid / in-person role based out of our New York office, with flexibility for some remotework. Requirements: Experience: You bring 10-15+ years of experience in accounting and financial management roles, with a significant portion of your career focused on scaling growth-stage companies. A CPA or equivalent certification is strongly preferred. Your background demonstrates a successful track record in establishing robust financial controls, managing audits, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards. Accounting Expertise: Your expertise in financial accounting is comprehensive, including proficiency in financial reporting, general ledger management, and budgeting. You possess strong skills in financial software and platforms, with advanced Excel skills. Familiarity with accounting standards (GAAP, IFRS) and experience with financial audits is required. Leadership and Team Management: Proven experience in leading and scaling finance or accounting teams is essential. You should have a strong record of mentoring finance professionals and fostering a collaborative and results-driven work environment. Your leadership skills enable you to build and guide your team through the complexities of rapid growth phases. Strategic Planning and Execution: You have demonstrated the ability to develop and implement financial strategies that align with business goals. Your strategic mindset allows you to not only foresee and plan for future growth but also to pivot and adapt strategies in response to changing market dynamics. Operational Efficiency: With an eye for operational efficiency, you are adept at identifying and implementing process improvements that optimize financial operations and support business scaling. Your approach integrates financial management with operational workflows to drive efficiency and effectiveness. Communication: Exceptional communication skills are a must. You are adept at translating complex financial data into clear, actionable insights for non-financial stakeholders. Your ability to communicate effectively with senior management, the board of directors, investors, and your team is crucial for fostering alignment and driving strategic initiatives. Industry Knowledge: While not mandatory, a good understanding of the healthcare ecosystem, regulatory requirements, and emerging trends is highly beneficial. This knowledge will enable you to make strategic decisions that align with industry dynamics and regulatory frameworks. Location: Based in NYC. The role offers flexibility with a hybrid work arrangement, but your presence is needed in the office to lead the team and collaborate with other departments effectively. Responsibilities: Financial and Accounting Leadership: Oversee all accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll. Ensure the integrity of financial records and the accuracy of financial reporting. Implement and maintain strong financial controls and processes. Financial Reporting and Compliance: Ensure compliance with all financial regulations and accounting standards. Manage the preparation of financial statements and reports, and oversee internal and external audits. Budgeting and Forecasting: Lead the budgeting and forecasting processes, providing detailed financial analysis and insights to support strategic planning and decision-making. Work closely with the CEO and other senior leaders to set financial targets and monitor performance against those targets. Cost Management and Efficiency: Analyze financial data to identify cost-saving opportunities and efficiency improvements. Implement processes to optimize financial operations and enhance overall financial health. Team Management and Development: Build and manage a multifaceted team that spans finance and accounting. Lead recruitment, training, and development efforts to ensure the team is skilled, motivated, and aligned with our growth and efficiency goals. Foster a culture of continuous improvement, operational excellence, and financial rigor. Stakeholder Engagement: Act as a key liaison between finance, operations, and other departments, ensuring clear communication and alignment of financial and operational objectives. Engage with external stakeholders, including suppliers, partners, and regulatory bodies, to support business operations and strategic initiatives. Risk Management: Oversee risk management strategies related to financial practices and operational processes. Ensure the company is adequately protected against financial and operational risks.
