Position Type: Support Staff/Custodian Date Posted: 10/15/2024 Location: WIU Administration Building POSITION: Custodian (TIS-SS-CST) DIVISION: Financial Services SUPERVISOR: Buildings and Grounds Supervisor SUPERVISES: No Supervisory Responsibility CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt NUMBER OF DAYS: 260 days for full-time; varies for part-time COMPENSATION PLAN: WIU-ESPA CBA Specified Working Hours: Monday - Friday, 6-10 pm or changed as needed by Supervisor. Daily shifts are not to exceed 4 hours per day. Education and Experience: Minimum Education: High School or its equivalent Minimum Experience: Previous custodial experience is preferred General Description: The Custodian's primary responsibility is to promote and maintain the cleanliness of the building and grounds, and provide set up and take down of tables, chairs, etc. for a variety of events. The custodian will use prescribed methods and materials in cleaning and otherwise caring for building and equipment. The custodian will respond to building staff needs to maintain the functioning of the building and its programs, and resolves problems to ensure clean, orderly, efficient and safe operations. Description of Duties: Cleans classrooms, conference rooms auditorium/gymnasium, staff lunch room and offices: dusts chalkboard/whiteboard, cleans windows, empty trash, vacuum and/or dust mop floors, clean blinds. Cleans restrooms: clean toilets, clean sink, mop floor daily; refill paper products and hand soap as needed. Vacuums carpeted areas as necessary, cleans hallways, floors, walls (if needed) and drinking fountains, and floor mats daily. Opens/Closes facility: Checks all doors to make sure they are secured and arms/disarms alarm systems. Cleans walkways and parking areas from debris (snow, ice) and spread salt, as needed. Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Director or designee. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of and/or ability to learn about cleaning equipment, products, techniques and standards. Skills in using cleaning products and equipment. Knowledge in operating and maintaining machines, equipment and tools. Must be able to follow directions, communicate effectively and work well with others in a team environment and with limited supervision. Basic computer operating skills, including email function and helpdesk ticket processing. Ability to display a positive and enthusiastic work ethic. Current or former Westmoreland Intermediate Unit employees must have demonstrated proficiency at job assignments.
