Job Summary The Director of Career Services leads and provides comprehensive career guidance and innovative career-related programming for undergraduate students, graduate students, and alumni (in person and online) in the Luddy School of Informatics, Computing and Engineering (Indianapolis campus) on all career-related matters. Department-Specific Responsibilities Devises and leads strategic employer development plans, including research and assessment of employer hiring needs, translating and conveying those needs to department chairs and program directors to better inform course/curriculum content and/or event sequencing. Oversees and collaborates with the Assistant Program Directors in creating and planning student-focused career and professional development events, including at least 1 major career recruiting event per year. Gathers, analyzes, and interprets data for Student Services, campus, university, and Luddy administration, and reports on career data through visualizations and written reports. Represents the Luddy School on the IU Indianapolis career services council and other related campus, state and national associations. Collaborates regularly with other student services directors, staff, and faculty to provide a full student experience from recruitment to graduation, including, but not limited to, participation in events related to recruitment, yield, retention, enrollment, and graduation. Provides expert, industry-specific career advising to students and alumni from Luddy Indianapolis. Develops and implements student internship, practica, and job placement plans, strategies, programs, and activities designed to increase the number of internships (unpaid and paid) and job opportunities for Luddy students. Researches and assesses the specific hiring needs and recruiting approaches for various employers and industries and coordinate strategic recruiting events based on that research to meet the needs of employers and students in Luddy's wide variety of degree and certificate areas. Communicates with employers and recommend the best approach for each, based on their industry and target student population, to ensure that the students in the school have the best possible chance to attain successful post-graduation outcomes. Builds and maintains hiring pipelines for Luddy students, including co-op learning experiences and internship pipelines with employer partners. Hosts employers on-campus for information sessions and on-campus interviews. Creates opportunities for students' career and professional development through innovative, effective and tailored events and programs, including resume review and mock interview days, and on- and off-campus employer site visits. Coordinates site visit opportunities for students. Formulates and manages a strategic plan to increase the number, quality, and participation of these student-focused career and professional development events, including coordinating marketing efforts and outreach to faculty, academic advisors, graduate program coordinator, recruiters, and student organizations. Designs and implements said events with specific learning outcomes which support both student development and employer need. Develops and manages with the Assistant Program Directors at least one schoolwide annual career event (generally in the Fall) from start to finish, securing location, inviting employers, managing all logistics, student communication and volunteers for the event. Designs, implements, and manages an internship and practica database, tracking and communication system, including company, contact person, location, salary, job title, industry, and sector. Designs, implements, and manages a database of alumni employment including company, location, salary, job title, industry, and sector, at graduation and beyond (First Destination Survey). Tracks and enters alumni success stories for each graduating class. This data is submitted for reporting from the campus, university, and nationwide data collection. Creates, maintains, and regularly assess the school's career education plan for students, updating the plan as needs and industry standards evolve. Hires, supervises, and collaborates with faculty teaching the career planning and internship classes for the school. Collaborates with faculty on election of texts, preparation of syllabi, and assignments to support a developmental career education experience for students. Develops curriculum for internship courses. Identifies and recruits adjunct instructors for career-development and internship courses. Administratively oversees and ensures quality control for all internship courses. Teaches at least 1 career development course per semester as needed; teaches and administers the HIM-M 485 and INFO-I 490 courses. Provides leadership, training, oversight, and support to the Assistant Program Directors and student workers. Works collaboratively with academic advisors, graduate program staff, and faculty to support students in grasping the core competencies of their program, implement career curriculum throughout the degree. Collaborates on planning career curriculum in the first-year experience classes. Assists students in developing a strong portfolio and resume that promote their abilities. General Responsibilities Provides highest level of operational leadership and coordination of assigned staff members to define career services methodologies and standards; provides direction and guidance on high priority career services projects/initiatives. Establishes short-term business plans and long-term operational objectives, including managing project timelines/deliverables and developing resource plans for multi-project/multi-phase career services initiatives. Conducts a variety of personnel actions to include, but not limited to hiring, promotion, performance management, and dismissal. Manages high level assignments and allocation of career services resources, including negotiating and coordinating initiatives that involve staff in other departments/areas/teams; may coordinate large-scale career services projects with a wide audiences in support of academic initiatives. Makes budgetary recommendations/proposals based on resource needs and ensures cost containment. Researches and stays up-to-date on new industry career services standards, technologies, policies, and procedures; responsible for the implementation of new protocols/procedures to address business needs. Works collaboratively with other career services leaders across departments in recommending standards, best practices, and related policies/procedures. Prepares management reports and summaries for senior administration, executive, steering and advisory committees; acts as advisor to executive committees; serves on various university committees, communities of practice, and task forces related to career services. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus.
