Tri-County Technical College School of Mathematics and Sciences is seeking an innovative and collaborative Biology Lab Specialist I dedicated to meeting the diverse needs of our students. The successful candidate will be responsible for the daily operations of all Science Department labs, which may include chemistry, biology, physics, physical science and astronomy, at all Campus locations. Operational duties include set up laboratory materials; utilize requisite laboratory equipment and instruments making minor adjustments as required; work with potential biohazardous materials; responsible for laboratory maintenance; prepare solutions and media; maintains the laboratory budget, inventory and order equipment and supplies; supervise work study lab technicians. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Directs daily laboratory operations to support academic programs by labeling, organizing, and presenting specific materials for laboratory tests and/or experiments which may include various assays, specialized techniques such as electrophoresis and basic tissue culture, following established procedures or protocols. Consults with faculty members on procedures and protocols. Ascertains difficulties or conflicts in equipment scheduling or procedures. Responsible for preparation of sterile media such as agar in plates, jars or test tubes for use in growing bacterial cultures. Responsible for preparation of solutions, reagents and stains following standard laboratory formulas and procedures. Ensures use of sterile techniques to avoid contaminating lab experiments. Prepares, cleans sterilizes and maintains laboratory equipment, glassware and instruments used in experiments. Monitors inventory levels, orders materials and supplies in accordance with established policies. Maintains the general order and cleanliness of all lab spaces. Ensure chemical inventory is stored in an orderly manner compliant with OSHA regulations. Maintains inventory of all chemical and supplies and oversees all purchasing. Ensures compliance with biohazard, OSHA and chemical safety standards through proper handling of potentially hazardous chemical and biological agents in the workplace. Direct, supervise, hire and instruct work study laboratory technicians. Other duties as required as specified by department head. Minimum and Additional Requirements A high school diploma and work experience in a clinical or research laboratory setting, in a health care setting. OR a bachelor's degree in a related scientific discipline may be substituted for the required work experience.
