Job Description Purpose of Position: Under the supervision of the Director of Infection Control, manages a diverse range of responsibilities focused on assisting in the daily function of all aspects of the Infection Control Department activities across the health care setting. Assists in educating the health care setting staff, orchestrating the daily operations of the infectious disease. Responded in bringing specialized expertise in epidemiology, microbiology, and infection control principles. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Acts as a key advisor to the Director of Infection Control, providing input on strategic initiatives, program development, and policy formulation to enhance infection control measures. Assists the Director in providing guidance and input in planning and implementing the hospital-wide infection prevention and control program. 2. Works in collaboration with infection control team members to coordinate and optimize daily operational tasks, ensuring efficient program execution and staff engagement. 3. Develops, reviews, and updates infection control policies and procedures, ensuring they align with current CDC guidelines, APIC and SHEA standards, and Joint Commission requirements. 4. Evaluates patient care practices, identifies areas for improvement in infection prevention and control, and lead implementation of updated protocols to address these issues. 5. Serves as an active member of the hospital's Infection Control Committee, providing expert recommendations and supporting decision-making processes. 6. Identifies challenges and barriers to effective infection control and proposes solutions to overcome these issues. 7. Acts as a resource and consultant for hospital staff on all matters related to infection prevention and control and offers guidance and expert advice to foster an environment of safety and compliance. 8. Actively participates in research studies focused on infection control practices and epidemiology, contributing to the body of knowledge in the field 9. Initiates and leads performance improvement projects that target specific areas of infection prevention and control, with the goal of decreasing healthcare-associated infections, and improving patient outcomes and department efficiency. 10. Addresses additional infection prevention and control-related tasks as delegated by the Director. Minimum Qualifications For Appointment to Level I 1. Holds and maintains or obtains within three (3) years of appointment to the position, a Certification in Infection Prevention and Control (CIC) issued by the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC); and 2. Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in Epidemiology, Microbiology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, Nursing or a related discipline; and 3. Two (2) years of satisfactory clinical experience or experience working in infection prevention and control, health care epidemiology or a related field in a hospital or a health care setting. For Appointment to Level II 1. Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Epidemiology, Microbiology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, Nursing or a related discipline and three (3) years of satisfactory clinical experience or experience working in infection prevention and control, health care epidemiology or a related field in a hospital or a health care setting; or 2. Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in disciplines, as listed in #1 above and four (4) years of satisfactory experience, as described in #1 above. 3. Current CIC issued by CBIC can be substituted for two (2) years of qualifying experience. However, all candidates must obtain a CIC issued by CBIC within three (3) years of appointment to the position. For Appointment to Level III 1. Holds and maintains CIC issued by CBIC; and 2. Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Epidemiology, Microbiology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, Nursing or a related discipline and four (4) years of satisfactory clinical experience or experience working in infection prevention and control, health care epidemiology or a related field in a hospital or a health care setting; or 3. Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in disciplines, as listed in #2 above; and five (5) years of satisfactory experience, as described in #2 above.
