Job Summary and Qualifications GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES : Under the direction of a Nurse Manager, RN or Medical Director, the Cardiac Device Technician will provide thorough, proficient interrogation and assist in the management of all patients with CIED (Cardiac Implantable Electrical Device) in person, remotely, and/or via phone transmission. These include pacemakers, ICD's, ILR's and cardiac resynchronization devices. Responsible for initial device analysis, preliminary report generation, and alerting physician or non-physician practitioner to urgent issues requiring further attention. The outpatient setting requires the Device Technologist with a patient centric environment with a team approach to delivery of care. SUPERVISOR: Practice Manager DUTIES INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO: Interrogate, interpret, and reprogram cardiac devices (all CIED's) with minimal physician supervision. Trouble shoot critical device issues and take immediate steps toward resolution. Collaborate with EP nurses, physicians, vendor representatives and non-physicians with direct patient care, device status and accurately document device analysis in EMR for review. Educate patients on all aspects of their device including remote monitoring and follow-up protocol. Provides implantable loop recorder post implant instructions to the patient and family and follow up outpatient monitoring. Enrollment, scheduling, education, and maintenance of patients in various remote monitoring platforms (Carelink, Latitude, Merlin, and Biotronik). Schedule patients for device appointment follow up in EMR and remote website. Immediately contact no show patients to ensure they are re-scheduled. Consistently travel to regional or satellite offices for assigned device clinics. Participate in positive, proactive inter- and intra-departmental communication. Promote a healthy clinical environment and good working relationships. Serve as resource to physicians and other practice employees regarding device patients and services. Keep equipment in good working condition and notify appropriate personnel of problem areas or safety issues. Ensureprogramming rooms are adequately stocked with necessary supplies. Responsible for alignment of cardiac device billing and coding with current guidelines and industry standards to optimize reimbursement and operational success. Participate in professional development activities and maintain professional affiliations. EDUCATION: High School degree or equivalent required. Minimum 2 years experience of Cardiovascular/Cardiology Technician required. Could include multiple cardiac settings- EP lab, Cardiac Cath Lab Certification of completion from an approved cardiac device technical school (such as ATI or Prep MD) or program preferred OR educational/clinical experience to qualify for Certified Cardiac Device Specialist (CCDS) preferred Current BLS certification required. Certification by IBHRE within 2 years of employment is strongly preferred and encouraged Experience: 1-2 years of Cardiology experience required working in a clinical practice in the area of Cardiology/Cardiovascular/Cardiac Sciences with direct patient care experience. Minimum of 1-2 year's experience analyzing and reprogramming cardiac pacemakers and ICD's (Biotronik, Boston Scientific, Medtronic, and Abbott/St. Jude) OR cardiac device technology certification from a recognized device training school such as ATI or PrepMD preferred Experience reviewing and managing remote device transmissions (Carelink, Latitude, and Merlin) preferred. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills and highly developed interpersonal skills.
