Job Description Position Summary: Assist with Supervision of the Technical Staff and works independently under general direction to address laboratory needs as the occasion arises. Responsible for performing and assessing highly technical and complex clinical laboratory tests on specimens for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes in a timely fashion. Demonstrates knowledge of the organization's Service Standards and incorporates them into the performance of Duties Provides technical supervision of subordinates in the absence of the Supervisor. Principal Responsibilities: I. SUPERVISORY ASSISTANCE - Employee training/Technical Assistance with staff Assists with the supervision of the technical staff and provides support to the supervisor. Performance Criteria: Assists in monitoring and compliance of organization's Service Standards by laboratory employees. Ensures that the Supervisor is kept aware of work situations and the performance of each employee on an on-going basis. Trains newly hired technical staff effectively in the procedures of the department and pertinent policies Trains new and current employees; oversees the technical performance of new employees during orientation and less qualified personnel assigned to the same area. Orient existing employees to new procedures and/or changes in existing procedures Offers continuing guidance and technical assistance to employees on work activities and procedures Informs supervisor of problems with equipment, reagent, controls, etc Notifies the supervisor when service is needed Assists with troubleshooting technical problems by utilizing expertise in the field Monitors the work of staff in order to provide clear and accurate feedback to supervisor regarding their performance Remind and document employees who are not complying with set standards. Provide assistance in drafting and implementing operational standards related to technical aspects of the laboratory. etc. Any other tasks assigned by Head of Department Minimum Qualifications 1. Valid license as a clinical laboratory technologist, cytotechnologist, or histotechnologist issued by the NYSED. For Appointment to Levels IV and V 1. In addition to meeting the qualification requirement of Assignment Level II, candidates must also meet one of the qualification requirements of a laboratory supervisor as outlined in Title 10, Section 58-1.4 of the New York Public Health Law.
