NV5 is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer II to develop plans, specifications and reports on a number of concurrent projects with supervision from senior engineers. They will perform assignments designed to develop professional engineering work, knowledge, and abilities, requiring application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria in carrying out a sequence of related engineering tasks. The ideal candidate will have 4-7 years of professional engineering experience. This position is a hybrid position, with at least 3-days per week in the office required. Office locations available are Andover and Hadley, MA, depending on your preference. Responsibilities Performs mid-level mechanical engineering tasks under the supervision of a senior engineer and/or department head including, but not limited to the following: Performs engineering calculations as well as operates software packages (including Trane TRACE, HAPS or eQUEST) related to multiple portions of a project such as heating, cooling, ventilation, energy modelling calculations, and equipment sizing. Develops plans and specifications for concurrent projects. Researches, specifies, sizes, and selects equipment. Obtains and documents field data by conducting field visits on project sites both in state and out of state. May require overnight travel. Produces site observation reports and final punch lists. Begin performing quality assurance checks on others' work as directed by supervisor. Edits master specification sections to be project specific. Prepares studies, drawings and sketches as required. Performs technical analyses. Reviews shop drawings and RFIs. May communicate with clients and contractors, on occasion, to resolve issues with engineering designs. Works with other disciplines to provide a fully coordinated design. Obtains knowledge of building codes and stays current with building code changes. Performs BIM/CAD functions proficiently in the mechanical discipline and will use Revit and/or AutoCAD MEP software to transfer design concepts to a format acceptable to the client, architect and/or construction company in accordance with NV5 standards. Attends in-house seminars and approved educational opportunities outside of the office. Participates in technical and professional societies. Must be a member of at least one (1) trade specific organization (ASHRAE, ASPE, AIA, etc.). Other duties as necessary and assigned. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering is required. A qualified candidate for this position will have four (4) to seven (7) years of consulting engineering experience designing mechanical systems and developing plans and specifications for a variety of facility types. Must be proficient in ductwork and piping design as well as HVAC control sequences development. Experience in laboratories and/or industrial/manufacturing facility design is strongly preferred. Must be highly proficient in the use of Revit and AutoCAD MEP as design software. A CAD and Revit assessment will be performed to verify skill level. Must have a thorough understanding of mechanical engineering principles. Must have a thorough understanding of applicable mechanical design codes. Must be able to travel to project sites both in and out of state, as needed or required. May require overnight travel on occasion. Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with staff at all levels, vendors, and clients. Must always conduct themselves in a professional manner. Completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (EIT) is preferred for all engineers at this level. Professional Engineer (PE) registration is highly desired for candidates with 4+ years of experience.
