Title: Data Analyst - MDHHS/EGLE $25.10 - $39.33 / Posted Thru: Location: Remote/Virtual - Occasional in-person at Lansing, MI office required - Must Live and Work in Michigan Limited-Term: This position is limited term and is funded through 9/30/2026. Purpose: This Data Analyst position is a primarily responsible for performance of operational and maintenance tasks related to data included within Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) assessment tool. Tasks include entering data from independent sources including NOAA, USGS, USDA, USEPS, and local and municipal governments. In addition, this position will work with the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy's (EGLE), Drinking Water and Environmental Health Division (DWEHD) to review new electronically entered well records and/or enter and review records submitted on paper as requested. Duties and Responsibilities: Duty 1: Perform as a Data Analyst with the Geotechnical Services Program within the Drinking Water and Environmental Sampling Unit within the MDHHS Chemical Planning and Response Section (55%). Collect and enter data into MDHHS assessment tool. Collect and enter data from NOAA, USGS, EGLE, Well Logic, USDA, USEPA, local and municipal governments. Monitor for updates to the data sets. Work directly with REDCap data technicians and geotechnical staff to alert them to the new data. Convert raw PDF data into language readable by REDCap and GIS. Review correctness of PDF data received. Code PDF data into REDCap and/or GIS. Conduct QA/QC of all data entered. Provide information related to selecting coding language for data that is compatible with GIS, REDCap and/or other data systems and software utilized by Geotechnical Services. Attend and participate in meeting. Conduct research into various data related functions and/or systems. Recommend solutions for data related concerns identified within the Geotechnical Services Program or across the Unit and/or Section. Duty 2: Perform as a Data Analyst in conjunction with EGLE DWEHD (35%) - DHHS in partnership with EGLE DWEHD reviews well records in the Wellogic application for accuracy of location, data errors, and administrative completeness. To ensure that all well records received are available for areas where decisions are being made regarding source water contamination and targeting water wells for sample collection and analyses. Review new electronically entered well records in the Wellogic application for accuracy of location, data errors, and administrative completeness. Records submitted on paper will also be reviewed and corrected, as needed, for the same parameters and entered into the system. Duty 3: Communication and collaboration. (5%). Attend and participate in meetings with assigned MDHHS and EGLE project staff as requested. Provided weekly effort reporting to MDHHS supervisor detailing activities completed for EGLE during the reporting period. Participate in web-based meetings and trainings as scheduled. Communicate on the phone, on web-based calls or through other means with co-workers in both MDHHS and EGLE as necessary to confirm assignments and request help as needed to meet objectives. Duty 4: Training and other duties. (5%) Participate in in person and web-based trainings as required and scheduled. Complete any training required by MDHHS and/or EGLE. Always represent the best interests of MDHHS, EGLE and MPHI. All other duties as assigned. Qualifications/Requirements: Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major. Experience: No specific experience is required however preference will be given to candidates with knowledge and experience with data systems, specifically REDCap. Additional preference will be given to candidates with knowledge and limited experience working within GIS systems. Experience/general knowledge in the environmental data field and/or other similar science fields is preferred. Alternate Education : Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school and the equivalent of at least two years of full-time active-duty experience at or above the E-6 level in the uniformed services may be substituted for the education requirement. Important Skills and Characteristics: Strong oral and written communication skills. Self-motivated, able to complete work in a timely manner with minimal supervision. Ability to work collaboratively with co-workers and external partners. Ability to sit, stand, kneel. Office work may involve lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 20 lbs. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel necessary. Experience with other Microsoft Office Suite products preferred. Experience with GIS systems and their use. Basic understanding of data collection and security. Basic understanding or willingness to learn scientific principles, practices and procedures of toxicology, epidemiology, and biology. Work Environment and Physical Requirements: Primarily standard office environment. Requires a valid vehicle operator's license. RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE WORK OF OTHERS: No assigned responsibility. IMPACT ON PROJECTS, SERVICES AND OPERATIONS: This position serves to support the Environmental Health Bureau, MDHHS and EGLE. They will work in cooperation with technical subject-area experts within the MDHHS and EGLE to track and improve data within the various systems used by MDHHS and EQLE. This individual will also support the implementation of projects under guidance of senior workers.
