The Tax Accountant, working under direct supervision, is responsible for organizing and coordinating tax data for the timely completion of business tax returns and accounting duties. This role analyzes and prepares complex federal, state, and local income and premium tax returns and reserves, conducts tax research, and assists with data gathering and analysis during regulatory audits. This role is also involved in preparing reconciliations and certifications of federal accounts, reviewing multi-state tax returns, conducting research on tax rules, improving processes, and completing moderately complex tax returns for various entities independently or with minimal direction. #LI-DNI Analyzes and prepares complex annual federal, state, and local income and premium tax returns and supporting workpapers, under direct supervision. Assists with preparation of monthly federal tax provision based on SAP and GAAP, including calculation of current income tax expense, federal tax payable, and deferred taxes. Calculates monthly tax accruals including but not limited to sales and use tax, income and franchise taxes, premium and municipal taxes, above the line taxes, and guaranty funds. Maintains and prepares monthly, quarterly, or annual account reconciliations for selected tax accounts maintained within the tax department. Performs minor bookkeeping duties including, but not limited to posting monthly journal entries, ad hoc querying of accounts, data migration from general ledger to tax software. Assists in identifying and researching tax planning opportunities and participates on special projects assigned by manager. Completes moderately complex federal, state, local, and special tax returns for individuals, partnerships, corporations, trusts, and estates independently and with minimal direction. Assists with the preparation of the company's quarterly tax provisions and associated tax reporting on both GAAP and statutory basis. Completes detailed and complex calculations with direct supervision including, but not limited to loss reserve discounting, fixed asset depreciation, investment income, and state income tax apportionment. 2-4 years of experience in Tax, Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Economics, or a related field and/or commensurate experience. Location Hybrid defined as three or more days per week in the office.
