Job Description An employer in the life sciences industry is looking for a Technical Sales Manager, Bay Area to join their team. This is an individual contributor role as opposed to people management. This role is focused on selling consumable laboratory products (non-glass, such as flasks and filters), targeting lab managers within new and existing accounts and building renewable revenue streams through consistent restocking orders. The Technical Sales Manager will leverage their scientific background and proven experience in a field sales setting, specifically within life sciences or biotech. This position involves visiting approximately 24 - 40 customers each month, conducting 6-10 in-person meetings per week, and capturing detailed notes and recaps from each meeting. Some responsibilities of the Technical Sales Manager will include but are not limited to: "ƒ Engaging in 75% business development activities and 25% account management to drive sales growth. New client development is a key aspect of this position! "ƒ Managing and developing sales within new and existing accounts, focusing on laboratory consumables with sales ranging from $1,000 - $5,000 "ƒ Managing a sales cycle from conception to close which can take anywhere from 1 to 6+ months depending on the type of product sold - EX Quicker Sales: flasks and biology focused items - EX Longer Sales: Filter related products "ƒ Building relationships and trust with lab managers and customers, ensuring their needs are met and issues addressed. "ƒ Recapping daily/weekly meetings thoroughly to inform strategy and updates. "ƒ Participating in weekly one-on-one meetings with the sales manager and bi-weekly team meetings. "ƒ LOCATION/TRAVEL: "ƒ Bay Area, with 60% or more travel involved to meet customers and prospects within the area. SCHEDULE: "ƒ Monday - Friday, with a flexible schedule to accommodate customer hours as needed. TRAINING: "ƒ A comprehensive 6-month ramp-up period will include 1 week of onboarding in Southern California, along with ride-alongs and exposure to leadership, including the Director of Sales. Skills and Requirements Bachelors degree in Biology, Chemistry, or a related field. "ƒ 3+ years of experience in field sales within life sciences or biotech, particularly selling scientific consumables. "ƒ Experience building renewable revenue streams with sales being up to $10,000, rather than a focus on large equipment sales. "ƒ Experience and comfortability not just managing existing accounts, but conducting business development (cold calling) target leads. "ƒ Strong understanding of basic science to effectively communicate with customers. Experience selling lab consumables or working with manufacturers such as Eppendorf, Thermo Fisher, Gilson, and Corning is highly desirable.
