This Opportunity WSP is currently initiating a search for a Civil Transmission Lines Design Engineer for our Buffalo, NY office. The following locations will also be considered: Boston, MA, New York, NY, Milwaukee, WI, Madison, WI. Provides support to technical staff, engineers, and project managers for transmission line design, permitting, document review, and construction of transmission lines. Tasks may include basic assistance with the research, design, concept development, and construction design in PLS CADD, drawing creation, material take offs, material specification review and client specification review. Generates accurate and concise reports and documentation regarding assigned material, installations, and construction specifications. Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality. Your Impact Perform engineering duties from conceptual stages of projects through construction. Structural analysis, foundation design, wire sag and tension analysis, development of design criteria and specifications for transmission line design. Civil site design including earthwork, stabilization, station layouts, etc. Procurement of materials, project cost estimating, and quality control reviews. Work with drafting department to prepare drawings and specifications for various deliverables. Regularly meets and corresponds with clients, material vendors, sub-contractors, etc. Travel for project site visits and field reviews. Actively engages and supports business development initiatives in the transmission line market. Assist with verifying the characteristics of a site and providing technical assistance on various engineering, design, and construction issues. Work with cross-functional teams in executing project work. Assist with work plan preparation and coordination of field/site work and permitting. Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures. Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs. Who You Are Required Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline from an ABET accredited engineering program 1- 3 years of transmission line design experience, 69kV to 500kV. HVDC or underground cable transmission design experience is a plus. Solid working knowledge of the PLS-CADD suite of design software tools Working knowledge of the following programs: LPILE, MFAD, ArcGIS, AutoCAD, MicroStation Familiarity with design codes and standards: NESC, IEC, CSA, IEEE, ANSI, IBC, ASCE Proficiency in writing and providing support documentation for engineering calculations Experienced user MS Office applications Superb written and verbal communication skills Attention to detail The selected candidate must undergo pre-employment drug screening and a criminal background investigation. Analytical mindset with an ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions. Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies. Eager to learn the industry, codes and standards Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek Preferred Qualifications: Engineer in Training Certification, with plans to become licensed when you are able to based on state requirements Prior design experience. A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.
