Role Description The Cell Engineering team within the Technology group at Form is multidisciplinary and focused on delivering qualified battery cell designs that meet operational performance targets, at cost and with high reliability, from controlled processes on high-volume manufacturing lines for Form Energy's utility-scale multi-day energy storage system. We're looking for a Manufacturing Engineer II to join our Prototype Build team, within our Cell Engineering organization in Somerville, MA. As part of our Prototype Build team, you will closely collaborate with our Design, Electrode, and Product Engineering teams to facilitate design and materials improvements on our R&D Pilot Build line. In this role, you will identify new part fabrication techniques for in-house production, develop new assembly methods for prototype cell assembly, and drive continuous improvements to existing assembly processes. As we iterate on our cell design and architectures we expect a number of interesting technical challenges to arise that will require rapid root cause investigation and failure analyzes. You will coordinate closely with our Prototype Design and Shop teams to conceptualize and implement your vision for our R&D Build line. If you are excited at the prospect of getting hands on to drive a wide variety of complex prototype designs, from lab scale up through high volume production, then this is the right role for you! What you'll do: Design flexible test systems and fixtures for prototype and engineering validation Support test data analysis, and collaborate with design engineers to resolve issues detected in testing Conduct DFMEAs and failure analyses on prototype designs to inform DFM feedback Develop and trial solutions to mechanical cell design and assembly processes to drive the development of a highly robust and reliable product Support the implementation of new cell architectures and materials advancements into our R&D Build line Train and support a highly skilled team of build and engineering technicians on the processes you establish What you'll bring: 4+ years of manufacturing design or test experience, ideally in an electro-mechanical or battery assembly environment Knowledge of lean manufacturing; experience implementing lean process flows Experience working with design engineers and providing DFM or DFA feedback Experience influencing, communicating, and collaborating with a broad audience Experience with statistical data analysis software such as Minitab, Jmp, or Tableau a plus Experience working with electrochemical devices a plus #LI-Onsite #LI-AB1 Humanity is a cornerstone of Form Energy's culture, and we make sure our compensation and benefits reflect that.
