JustinBradley's client, A Washington, D.C. based university, is looking to add a Senior Accountant to their team. Under the general supervision of the Manager of Financial Reporting, this position plans, reviews, and supervises the accounting procedures and financial reporting of a large organization that has a complex accounting system. Highlighted Responsibilities: Plans, reviews, and supervises the management of a wide range of accounting activities relating to financial reporting compliance within the university. Interprets governmental, university, or contractual financial regulations and establishes means to implement effective procedures to achieve compliance, assist with all financial statement audits, prepare tax reporting work papers, and ensure all transactions are processed in accordance with GAAP. Responsible for the preparation of various financial reports. May supervise staff in the reconciliation of university transactions and reports with third-party documents. Acts as liaison between the Controller's Office and the University's operating units in the processing and reviewing of financial transactions. Updates and maintains various system data tables. Coordinates documentation of system changes. Coordinates audit work with the University's internal and external auditors. Prepares audit workpapers for the use of external auditors. Role Expectations and Experience: Accounting: Skill performing professional accounting work that requires the application of accounting theories, concepts, principles, and standards to the financial activities of an organization. Accounting Analysis: Skill preparing, analyzing, interpreting, and presenting accounting data; operating, maintaining, and modifying accounting systems; using accounting information to recommend solutions to management problems and structuring of organization programs; managing, operating, and analyzing cost accounting systems in connection with business activities; designing, implementing, and assessing internal control processes and systems. Auditing: Skill applying professional accounting and auditing knowledge, standards, and principles when advising on or performing work consisting of a systematic examination and appraisal of financial records, financial and management reports, management controls, policies, and practices affecting or reflecting the financial condition and operating results of an activity. Financial Auditing Compliance: Skill determining whether an array of financial information meets established or stated criteria; that an entity adheres to specific financial compliance requirements; that an entity has an adequate internal control structure over financial reporting and the safeguarding of assets; and that the financial information systems comply with applicable requirements. Financial Reporting: Skill interpreting, recording, and reporting financial transactions and providing this financial information for planning actions and/or evaluating performance. Internal Controls: Skill ensuring that funds are efficiently controlled, that fiduciary reports accurately reflect results of financial operations, and that the statutory requirements to control funds in accord with applicable legislation are properly executed. A well- qualified candidate will possess the following: Bachelor's degree in related field plus three to five years' experience or combination of education and experience which demonstrates the necessary skills and abilities needed to perform the job.
